No power in the brush

You may have either excess friction in a bearing or a slipping belt. Unplug the vacuum cleaner, remove the bottom plate, try turning the motor pulley by hand. If it is very hard to turn, remove the belt, then check the brush bearings and the motor bearings to see where the gum-up is. If it turns normally, try turning the motor pulley with one hand while holding the brush with the other to see if there is any slip in the belt or in the brush pulley. If the belt is loose, first check for loose screws or broken motor mounting posts. If those are all good, and the motor is as far back as the screw mounts let it go, the belt is probably stretched and should be replaced.

DYSON DC19 Lost half power at the source. No blockage, clean filters, turbo head clear which has stopped spinning. Barely used. Can the motor half blow? It is still drawing 1400 W on a power meter in...

Hi Peter, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear your DC19 isn't picking up as well as it should be. Have you washed the filter recently? We recommend washing it at least once every 3-6 months using cold water without detergent. Make sure the filter is completely dry before replacing it, which could take at least 24 hours:

If the filter has been washed, it's likely that there is a blockage somewhere in the floor tool, wand or hose that you may have missed. I appreciate you've already checked for this, but our support guide will walk you through the steps needed to locate and remove any obstructions: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc19t2/dc19t2/my-machine-is-not-working/check-extension-tube

If you've followed all of these steps and have not resolved the problem, please contact our experts directly so we can help. You can reach the Dyson Helpline by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

The rotating brushes on my floor setting keep stopping on carpet - even though nothing is clogging it. I have to turn my vacuum off and then back on to get it to start spinning again.

There are two things that cause this.

1) The suction is not good and is not making the turbine head run. Clean the filters/ head and check the hose for blockages

2) The Turbo head has more friction than it should. Remove the brushes from the turbo head and remove all hair etc from the bearings with tweezers.

If it still does not work the the most common problem is the bearing retainer in the turbo head has heated up and come loose. This is a very hard repair I do but for most they should buy a new turbo-head.

What does yellow exclamation point light mean

YELLO and RED mean danger - clogging, not brush turning, overheating, .... it is time to RESET -- turn it all off and let it sit for half hour - that is what the manual says, check the brush that is not clogged up and check the inlet to the hose and where the hose goes into the body from the head unit where the brush is - make sure those not clogged either. Turn it on, push the RESET button on left back side of head unit by the switch that changes height. The reset button is like a circuit breaker - stops unit when overheats, starts when reset. Yello is ERROR, and fix it before it turns red and stops all the way. Cheers!!!

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC08. If you're concerned about the performance of the turbo head, you may find it helpful to check the cleaner for blockages, and to wash the filter. The easiest way to locate and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?article=300&product=DC08-ST

The correct way to wash the filter is shown in the video below. Under normal use, this should be done at least once every 3-6 months. Use cold water without any detergents, and ensure the filter is totally dry before replacing it - this may take up to 12 hours.

Hopefully, by clearing any obstructions and washing the filter, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've tried this and are still concerned that the turbo head doesn't seem to be working correctly, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you, and to recommend the best course of action. You can call us free on 08002980298 - our Helpline is open from 7am until 10pm, 7 days a week.

Kind regards,

Bissell turbo revolution

you can wash that sponge filter by hand but you must let it dry compleatly before putting it back in the machine, I found a filter pack for the lift off vacume at walmart, make sure teh bottom filter is clean as well. the lift off vacume has 3 filters there is one filter in the tray under the dirt cup, one in the top cup, and the hepa filter in the back the 2 foam filters must be clean or you can have reduced suction, the lift off vacume I have I found thrown away because they never cleaned it outthe brush was dirty and full of strings the belt was worn, the hose under the vacume was full and stopped up the hose in the back was compleatly stopped up all filters were compleatly clogged, and the hepa filter was missing entirely. Not to insult you or anyone but i've found that a lot of people are jsut to lazy to clean their vacume out it fills up with dirt they throw it away and get a new one, i've gottten many like new vacumes for this reason, this bissell is working like brand new now. and I just replaced the belt and all filters in it saving me approx. 150.00 for a new one

I have taken the brush heads off and pulled all the hair out of the small gap between the chrome shaft and the plastic gear housing. Then a small amount of 3-in-1 oil into that gap to lube the internals and just a little through the air intake on the side of the head to clean and lube the seals and it works like new. This lasts about 9 months under high use and the process takes roughly 10 minutes.
