Western digital humming sound

I'm 99% sure the heads are seized to the platters on this. The buzzing, or humming sound you hear is the spindle motor trying to spin up, but it can't. This is also why the drive is not rotating. Definitely do not power this drive up any more if the data is important to you. If this is one of the smaller Passport style drives, it's pretty common for them to literally rip the read/write heads off as the drive tries to spin up. Professional data recovery is the only option in these cases.

Its not being recognized..

Hello,

It sounds like your problem is in the power adapter. You should be able to hear and feel the drive spinning when you turn it on if the power supply was working. There are replacement cases available that you can put your drive in that should get it back online. You should be able to open the external case and remove the drive. If you have a desktop PC available you should also be able to connect the drive to one of the hard drive controllers in the PC and access your data that way. If you check our site at: www.ccl-la.com We have a product review on an external case we use that works great. The case will work with either a SATA or IDE drive.

I hope this helps, If so please rate my solution.
