My laptop won't power up even when plugged in. The tech said it needed a new battery, but my experience with my other Toshiba Satellites is that when they are plugged in they will power up. What could...

If it's a battery problem you can remove the battery and connect the AC Adapter for your laptop and you should be able to turn on your laptop without the battery as long as the AC adapter is connected. If it's still not turning on even if there's no battery and the AC adapter is connected that means that the problem is with the components inside your laptop there's no point of buying a new battery for your laptop.
Before doing the steps I mentioned please make sure that there's no other devices connected to your laptop such as printers, usb devices devices etc..

My P305 will not charge the battery

A friend of mine had a bad battery. I advised her to buy a new battery, which worked fine for several months. Then she called and said her laptop would not work on battery or even plugged in. I had her buy a new charger. A week later, she called and it was not working again. We tried several things (she is some distance away) and finally I had her go get the cord from her old charger (luckily the trash had not been picked up yet) and it worked fine. So even new things can go bad - it sounds like the battery charger or the cord might be at fault.

I think my USB port on my printer has failed. It doesn't show up when I plug the cord into my computer? Do I need a whole new motherboard or can I fix this with a new USB port?

Did the usb connection stop working or are you connecting for the first time. Is it possible that your driver got corrupted? Try reinstalling the HP UBS driver.

Blank screen even when i turn laptop on.

Sounds like you may have gotten the polarity of the wires mixed up, or the two connections are shorting somewhere. If you heated the wires too much they may have melted through the insulation and short circuited.
You may also have a bad connection inside the computer portion of the jack - or the input, and may have to be soldered back onto the board - entails disassembling some of the laptop..
One other possibility is that the output cord to the powerjack is no good and if you can find another cord with the same type of male plug for it you could break the case apart, solder on a new (used) cord.

An Ohm meter comes in handy here but a simple 1.5 volt light with a battery in line can be a cheap meter for testing stuff.
Hope this helps. Could stick your tongue on the end of the wires to see if you have voltage but I would do it quickly and hope you don't have a bad heart. 20 volts shouldn't hurt you, especially if your not standing in a puddle or have a pace-maker. 4 amps is a lot though, as it only takes 1 amp to kill you.

I cannot get any response from my toshiba satellite p305d-s8828. I have plugged it in - nothing. No lights at all when pushing the start button. Help, please.

There could be a problem with the battery. A fast check to determine whether you have a problem with the power adapter, power cord or the laptop's battery is to turn off the laptop, remove the battery, connect the power adapter, turn on the laptop & see if it works.
If the laptop works directly from the power adapter with the battery removed, then the power adapter is good. In this case we can suspect that the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.

If this did not work, try also disassembling the laptop & make sure that all main components are seated properly. Also make sure that all ribbon cables interconnecting the various components of the laptop are tightly connected.

It must be a USB(Universal Serial Bus) and not a UBS if im not mistaken. A USB port looks like this: You can connect the card reader device to the port shown below if it has a USB cord. 9557145.jpg

Cannot find where UBS connection is on laptop Toshiba Satellite

sorry its not a great pic but the(ubs) USB ports are nearly always on the left or right side of any toshiba note book. im guessing you inherited the laptop or were forced to try and keep up with the new world and made the mind numbing leap into the unknown where every gadget you own is already in a portable time machine leaving you with now useles cd's that you refuse to get rid of because it took you years to compile your collection, and if you do get rid of it your then left with the problem of finding something else to put on the shelf in their place! lol life
