Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a Frigidaire upright freezer purchased 12/97 that takes a long time for the temp. alarm light to go out when we put fresh items in it. I had a repair man come check it & he said the freezer is running good & doing its job. He said the only problem I have is with the door gasket which doesn't seal properly. I ordered another one & installed it but that one also didn't seal properly. I have reinstalled the old one but now when I close the door the top left side of the door bulges out leaving a crack about 3/8 of an inch. I have checked the installation of the gasket which seems to be OK. I tried puttiing a thin film of vasaline on the freezer where the gasket contacts but the problem persists. It is so bad that I have to put a bungee cord around the top of the door so that it will remain closed. The bottom of the door closes OK & the gasket seals OK there but from the center of the door on the opening side upward there is that persistant crack. I have removed & replaced both gaskets several times & I cannot get the door to close & seal properly. Any help would be appreciated so that I dod't have to call a repairman.

Why is the temperature alarm light on, on my freezer Model# FFU21M8CW?

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that the temperature alarm light is on for your Frigidaire freezer, model# FFU21M8CW. This feature is designed to provide a warning of a possible malfunction. If the temperature of the food rises to a level unsafe for long-term storage, the buzzer will sound. The red light, if equipped, will also glow. The Temp Alarm feature operates on household electricity. If power fails, the alarm will not function. An ON/OFF switch allows you to deactivate the Temp Alarm when not wanted. Your freezer is shipped with the Temp Alarm in the OFF position. After your freezer has run approximately 4 hours, the red light, if equipped, will go off. Then you may activate the Temp Alarm without the alarm sounding. Press the ON switch to activate the Temp Alarm. To deactivate, press the OFF switch. If the alarm sounds, be sure freezer is properly leveled, and the door closes freely, and seals properly. If you suspect a technical malfunction, call an authorized servicer immediately. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

Is your compressor kicking on? If not then check the contactor-relay and the capacitor. If that isn't the problem then it is probably your compressor. Which is quite expensive to replace.

The unit is not at correct temp, ""unsafe to keep food"". Needs service.

If you remove all the items from the unit and defrost it for 2 days with door open, on restart, should work fine..

Freezer defrost cycle

If the defrost timer sticks in the defrost mode, yes. Normal defrost time is 30 minutes or less depending upon which timer is installed.
If it happens again, locate the defrost timer and turn the dial manually to see if the compressor comes back on. If so,replace the timer.
It is probably on the rear near the compressor. Some are under the front behind the dust guard.

Its keeps peeping

Hello twins49
Welcome to Fixya,

You said, your Frigidaire freezer 17 cu. ft. , it keeps buzzing or peeping
The alarm may be malfunctioning or it may be warning you of low temperature.
You can go to any hard ware store and buy a refrigerator thermometer and ask them if it can go into a freezer too!It can, But ask anyway!

If it is cold enough then it is a faulty alarm going off.

Your freezer may be equipped with an alarm.
Here is some information that may help you find it and turn it off if you wish

Temp Alarm (audible only or audible with warning light)

This feature is designed to provide a warning of possible malfunction. If the
temperature of the food rises to a level unsafe for long-term storage, the buzzer will
sound. The red light will also glow on models so equipped. The Temp Alarm feature
operates on household electricity. If power fails, the alarm will not perform. An ON/
OFF switch allows you to deactivate the Temp Alarm when not wanted. The freezer
is shipped with Temp Alarm in the OFF position. After freezer has run approximately
4 hours, the red light, if equipped, will go off. Then you may activate the Temp Alarm
without the alarm sounding.
Press the ON switch to activate the Temp Alarm. To deactivate, press the OFF switch.
If the alarm sounds, be sure freezer is properly leveled, and the door closes freely, and
seals properly. If you suspect a technical malfunction, call an authorized servicer
immediately.

Let me no what you find.
