Question about D-Link DWA-525 IEEE 802.11n (draft) - Wi-Fi Adapter PCI - 150 Mbps Pre-802.11n

1 Answer

I have a 64 bit vista pc connected to a wireless network with a dwa-525 card. Ping -t to router ia fast (<3ms>), but as soon as I browse to a url, the ping time deteriorates to >2 sec or even times out. Something is throtlling my wireless connection to this pc - I have other computers connected to the same router with no problems. Anyone have an idea of how to find out what is causing this? Thks.

update: replaced the dwa-525 with my older dwa-510

Update: replaced dwa-525 with an older dwa-510 and the problem disappeared. Is there a problem connecting an 802.11n adaptor to an 802.11g router? I understood 802.11n to be backward compatible.

If there are other wireless networks in the area it may be a channel issue with the router. You may want to reference to your users manual on how to change the channel that the router operates.

Wireless internet limited connectivity

The first thing to do is reset the router. There is a button on the router that you press with a paper clip. You will then have to access the router with your browser and a cat5 cable connection to change all the settings that you might need to change for security. DHCP should be enabled and there should not be an issue with the number of concurrent connections.

Mac OSX 10.6.8 HP laser printer connected to ethernet port on router. Can connect and print wirelessly from one computer on network but not another. How to fix?

Can you ping from both computers? (Open terminal and try "ping <the printer's IP address>" obviously replace the <> with the IP of your printer) I'm not too familiar with Macs but can you comapre the driver version? If there is a universal HP driver, use that.

I am trying to set up security on my wireless router, NETGEAR instructions say to go to HTTP://192.186.0.1 but I get an error message and cannot go further. Do you have a FAQ on this?

You need to make sure it is connected by Ethernet cable and go to address http://192.168.0.1
Username: admin
Password: password

If that fails try doing
Start > All Programs > Accesories > Comand Prompt (Right click and run as administrator for Windows 7 & Vista) > Type Ping 192.168.0.1
You are looking for it to say Ping Statistics
Send 4
Recived 4
Lost 0
That will tell us if your computer is communicating with your router correctly.

Hi psheayn,

Kindy copy this steps in notepad and also copy the screen shot before u start doing it.

You can put up a wireless password manually b logging in to the router interface but you should be very careful because if you change any thing else it might be a messup your whole router so kindly do the following steps alone.

Step 1: Open the internet explorer

Step 2: Clear the address bar and just type the number alone which is 192.168.2.1

Step 3: You will get router screen as below

Step 4: In the left corner of the page under "Wireless" Security and select security mode as "64 bit WEP "

Step 5: Type any 2 numbers per box as u like and apply changes. Also make sure that you are gonna copy the password. If you want to connect any other computer in future you will need to have that password to connect.

Step 6: Under security in left side select "WPS or Wifi Protected Setup" and select WPS as disabled and apply changes. Dont worry it not related to security its just an option that has to be disabled if you enable the 64 bit WEP password.

Step 7: Then Connect wireless computer to the wireless network name and will ask for the password this time since password has been enabled. And ur router is gonna be a protected one and no one can hack it.

Step 8: In case if ur not able to connect to the network remove the preferred network and connect to it.

To remove preferred network

XP OS

Start -->control pannel --> Network and Internet connection-->Network connection --> Right click on Wireless network connection icon --> Select 2nd tab Wireless network --> Remove preferred network one by one.

Windows Vista/ Windows 7

Start -->control pannel --> Network and Internet connection -->Network and sharing center --> In the left side select Manage Wireless network and remove preferred network one by one.

Check out the screen shot to enable security on the Router and to disabled WPS

No issues like that.
Network should show up no matter what the OS is, if the wireless card is working fine.
If u r not able to connect after that, check the security settings in the computer.

Try to Disconnect and Connect the Internet Manually in the Wireless Network Connection. Also this can be a problem with our Computer or Laptops Lan Card which may be having issues in connecting.

WLAN having consistant high latency with frequent all-out fail

I would suggest borrowing a different known working wireless adapter, and test trying that. Or test using a wired connection, just to prove it is the adapter. Perhaps the wireless adapter you are using is flaky.
