You may not have created a partition on your hard disk. To install OS in your PC.

1. Insert your bootable CD in your CD/DVD-ROM Drive.
2. Press any key to boot from CD. Setup will then load the necessary files.
3. Once everything is loaded. Press "C" to create partition. You can specify the amount of disk space on your primary partition. You can also create another partition for the remaining disk space.
4. Select the partition where you want to install your Operating System then press "Enter".
5. It will prompt you to format the partition. Choose NTFS format and press Enter.
6. Once complete, it will reboot your PC several Times. If you're ask to press any key again to boot from CD...DO NOT press any KEY...Just wait for it to load. And it will continue with the setup.
7. Just follow the next steps...

How to Configure a Computer to Multi Boot Operating Systems?

you either need to use multiple hard drives, or create multiple partitions on the existing hard drive. operating systems should be installed in order from oldest to newest, and, if you do it that way, and create your partitions ahead of time (can be done in computer management/disk management shrink disk/create new partition commands in windows vista or later), the bootloaders will automatically add the previous operating system to the boot list of the new operating system

Booting a bootable Windows CD/DVD for a fresh installation when the boot order...

There have been several times that people have been stuck with a virus infected or a corrupt Windows Operating System and are finding it very difficult to get a fresh installation because of a boot order problem. It could also be a clean working Operating System but the user just wants a new one. The PC, whether laptop or desktop, could be a gift from a friend or one that they have been using for some time.

In the case of a gift from a friend, it could be that a forgotten password has been set in the bios and all has been done by the user to gain access but to no avail. There are also situations whereby the boot order is set alright to boot from CD/DVD but the PC just fails to boot from the CD. In these cases, even thought the bootable CD/DVD is in the drive, the PC just boots straight to the unwanted Operating System but you know that your CD/DVD drive works fine.

Here's what to do:
Obtain appropriate screw drivers and carefully remove the hard disk from the laptop or desktop. Now Obtain an appropriate external hard disk connector for the type of hard drive you have. In the case of a desktop hard disk, you could easily connect it as a slave hard drive in another available desktop by setting the jumper to the slave position (could be primary slave or secondary slave depending on the drives in the PC).

Try and backup any important files from the hard disk or from the partition with the Operation System in the case where more than one partition exists on the hard drive. When that is done, then you will need a Hard Disk or Partition Management Software like Windows Disk Management(which can be accessed by right-clicking on 'My Computer' and selecting 'Manage' and the 'Disk Management' in the resulting window). You can also use a third party software.

Now delete the partition and create a new Partition (Primary Partition). Then format the partition (NTFS file system recommended). When this is done, disconnect the hard disk and fix it back into the PC. Now you are ready to install a fresh Windows Operation System. Turn on the PC, Insert the bootable Operating System CD/DVD (e.g Windows XP) and there you go: your PC will automatically boot from the CD/DVD.

Wish you all the best.

The computer stays on the intro screen with a cursor circling like its loading. that's been doing this for the last 20 min.please help

when it is not loading, the problem is with the operating system or may be the hard disk.install the new operating system software or repair the old one.if it loads, there is no problem with hard disk.if the hard disk does not allow you to install os then check with your hard disk.

Compaq desktop persario xp non-system disk or disk error

This means that the system identifies the hard drive on your computer as one that is not bootable, in other words, it does not contain any operating system, or it does contain one, but the disk format is not recognized by the system. For example, Windows operating systems only identify two types of disks and that is DYNAMIC or BASIC. If a Hard disk has an operating system and has been converted to DYNAMIC, you can not start any operating system on it. Only BASIC disks can be used to start an operating system. Here is a solution for you... Get a copy of the operating system you are using and boot the computer from it. Press F2 when booting and go to the system BIOS where you are going to configure the boot order or the boot sequence and make the CD drive the first booting device, so that the system can boot from the CD. If you receive a message stating that the SETUP can not find any hard disk installed.... then there must be a problem with the Hard disk format. Remove the hard disk and connect it to a desktop computer as a slave. This will enable you to see the Hard disk as a removable device on the 'My computer" menu.Go to start, right-click on "My computer" and select "Manage". This will take you into computer management console, then select "Disk management" and this will bring all the disks and drives connected to that computer and all their respective information. Click of the drive that you just connected and check on the bottom middle column, the type of the disk whether it is DYNAMIC or BASIC. If it is Dynamic, then you have to covert it back to basic. Make sure you make a data backup before you do this. This is because the system will delete anything on the hard drive. When you are done, take the hard drive back to your computer and boot from the CD again and install a new operating system. You should be good after this...

How to install local disk d

If you want to install disk D without disturbing the contents of disk C, use Partition Magic. For a new/ old Hard Disk to be formatted can be done with using the windows system/setup tools. Before using any of the above tools be familiar with it. You can install as many partitions as you want. It is also best way to manage your data, applications & operating system due to which you will have faster access to everything on your PC.

Hi !

For some reason, some hard disk will be damage due to bad sector and you cannot do anything about it not reinstall any operating system.

If the Hard Disk Drive failed to install the operating system, the hard drive is damaged and cannot be reformat. The only solution is to replace new Hard disk drive to install the operating system.

Inverted drives

Hi, this is easily fixed, however you may have to re-install the operating system if your windows installation is on one of these drives:

In windows xp:

To start Disk Management:
  1. Log on as administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type compmgmt.msc, and then click OK.
  3. In the console tree, click Disk Management. The Disk Management window appears. Your disks and volumes appear in a graphical view and list view. To customize how you view your disks and volumes in the upper and lower panes of the window, point to Top or Bottom on the View menu, and then click the view that you want to use.
This will allow you to change the drive letter if you right click on the drive and click on change drive letter - you will need to change them both to drives which are not C or D before you can make them the right way around.

The same can be done on Vista by right clicking on my computer and the manage, then disk management on the left hand side, using the same method as above.

Turned itself off now wont turn on

Sounds like the hard drive is having a problem. Try unplugging the PC for a minute. Sometimes this helps. If that doesn't do it. You can try putting in your operating system disk and do a disk repair or check disk.
