Today I went past the building where Sunhill used to be located. There was NO sign in front anymore. They were on East Andover in Southcenter area of Tukwila... I think they are gone. It appears that there are other types of these cutters now using individual cutting blade inserts. Sunhill was an importer... they did not manufacture the goods... It appears that mostly companies offer the heads that use the two or four sided inserts. Sorry for the bad news... Sunhill was around for a long time and offered even imported PC's at one time. Bought my first 286 machine through them.

I need to know how to adjust the blades on my powermatic model 50 jointer. Its an older model, I'm not sure what year. There are three blades and i need to know what position they need to be in compared to...

I usually adjust the knives slightly above the outfeed table. I use an aluminum straight edge & adjust them using a sheet of printer paper on the outfeed table so that they are about the thickness of the paper above the table. I place the paper on the outfeed table put the straightedge on the paper & rotate & adjust each knife so they just slightly hit the straightedge when I rotate the cutterhead by hand.

Needless to say the jointer needs to be unplugged while doing this.

Spindle on 8" jointer locks up after one revolutionbut I can find no point of contact with either table.

Bite the bullet and take the blades out completely. If the blades are interfering, but you can't see where, you need a major blade reset anyway. And if the problem is not the blades, you would want to remove the blades to get at the problem (bearing?), just so you don't cut yourself anyway.

One of the ears on the yoke that lifts the infeed

Try these folks. They were formerly a Powermatic dealer and still have a number of parts on hand. I was in there yesterday and they are getting away from Powermatic and going exclusively to Sawstop.

Spring return

paste this link into your browser address bar

thats the diagram and parts listing for the only available powermatic drill press ( 2800) , if its an older model you might find the parts on ebay , i have in the past used a recoil starter spring but it can be a pain to modify the spring to suit .

hope this helps , if it does please vote :)

could be the way you are feeding/removing the board. snipe is actually the sound the board makes when its end passes over the cutter. the inboard table should be slightly lower than the rear table. pressure and movement must be maintained when feeding the board the entire length of the joiner table.
