Question about Marshall Amplification Marshall Mg Series 10 Cd

1 Answer

I have the old 3520 200w SS head. It is blowing the fuse as soon as I power up. No one around here (south of Dallas, TX) know anything about this amp. I am using the Marshall 1553 cab w/ one 15" and 2 10" speakers. Any suggestions?

Here is a link to your schematic:

http://elektrotanya.com/marshall_bass_200w_3520.pdf/download.html

Scroll way down and click on "Get Manual" link. They will only let you download two a day unless you are registered.

Suggestion is to troubleshoot and repair the unit.

You will likely find one of the following:

Shorted transistors in output TR5 through TR10

Shorted rectifier diode(s)

Shorted fillter capacitor

Shorted power transformer (not very likely)

Why would my iron heart Lainey 212 combo amp combo be blowing fuses?

Because some component in the amp is failing/failed and drawing too much current. The amp needs a repair shop. Poking around without knowing what you're doing can expose you to leather voltage. Don't do it.

Amp keeps blowing fuses

Blowing fuses, was caused by many thing.
Short of rectifier, resistor, elco, tube heater, tube pin, and also trafo itself (primary or secondary winding). It must check step by step.
CAUTION :
THIS IS HIGH VOLTAGE AREA.
RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK THAT CAN KILL.
DON'T DO THIS IF YOU ARE NOT TECHNICIAN OR NOT FAMILIAR WITH VACUM TUBE CIRCUIT. THE CIRCUIT MAY STILL CONTAINS ELECTRIC SHOCK EVEN IF IF THE AMP IS NOT POWER PLUGGED.

The simple steps (see picture) are:
  1. Disconnect all connection from secondary of power trafo (PLV,PDCH,PACH and PHV).
Power ON the amp. If fuse is not blowing, trafo is good.
  2. Power OFF the amp. Unplug the cord.
Connect PLV1-PLV2-PLV3 (this are Bias voltage,+/-15VDC and Backlight PCB voltage) to power trafo.Power ON the amp. If fuse is not blowing,PLV circuit is good.If fuse blowing, there are parts is damage (dioda,elco,7815/7915,resistor) in this PLV circuit.
  3. If step 2 is good,go to next step.
Power OFF the amp. Unplug the cord.
With PLV circuit stay connected, connect PDCH 1-2 and PACH 1-2 to power trafo. Power ON the amp.
If fuse is not blowing,PDCH and PACH circuit is good and all tubes heater/filaments are lights after a few seconds.
If fuse blowing, there are parts is damage (dioda, elco, tube heater pins) in this PDCH/PACH circuit.
  4. If step 3 is good,go to next step.
Power OFF the amp. Unplug the cord.
With PLV,PDCH,PACH circuit stay connected, connect PHV 1-2 to power trafo.
Power ON the amp. CAUTION: HIGH VOLTAGE AREA is ON.
If fuse is not blowing,PHV circuit is good.
If fuse blowing, there are parts is damage (dioda, elco, tube pins) in this PHV circuit.

Notes:
  • Steps had to be done sequentially from 1 to 4, not upside down.
  • If tube/heater pin is short,it can't be repair. The tube must be replacing.
  • PDCH circuit is voltage for V1-2-3-4 heater/filaments.
  • PACH circuit is voltage for V5-6-7 heater/filaments.
  • Always replace fuse with same type.

Why my Marshall amplifier immediately blows fuses?

It could be a failed power supply capacitor, it could be a shorted speaker, it could be a shorted cable. It might also be a conductive piece of trash in just the wrong spot on the circuit. They would be the big ones of about 5000 microfarad give or take a few hundred microfarads.

Though a little less likely, there could be a short of failed component in the output stage.of the amp.

My Fender LX1506 powered mixer keep blowing the fuse as soon as i turn it on what is the problem?

There is a direct short somewhere. Is the fuse the right size amps? volts? You dont want to put an dc fuse in an ac power amp. Double check your fuses.

Have marshall mg100 hdfx head -power it up and blows fuses right away!

This is either a shorted component in the power supply section or in the power amp electronics itself. Continuing to replace a fuse MAY damage additional components. Take unit in for servicing.

Hello...I am an owner of the Fender Passport PD-500 Sound System

Replace the fuse only once. If it blows right away, then servicing is required as continued replacement will likely damage more inside.

Most of thes have a fuse holder that is a part of the input power socket. There is a little rectangular panel adjacent where the cord connects with a tab that you gently pry out and carries a small fuse. Replace the fuse and re-install the carrier.

These units are very hard to work on due to packaging.

Blown fuse

Continued replacement of fuses without fixing the reason for them blowing MAY be doing additional damage to components in the unit.

It needs to go to a repair shop. It is likely there is damage in the power supply section or that of the power amplifier section.

Look for a failure in the power supply section. You will need electronic experience or someone who has that.

If the fuse is glass and blows silvery inside thia means a direct short inside. SUSPECT the input rectifier or filter capacitor(s).

Do testing with a 100 watt light bulb in series with the hot side of the power cord to avoid blowing fuses.

Blows main fuse. Found burnt place on circuit board where connection 1 is. It's the board that's mounted to the heat sink with fan at the back. Disconnected connector 3 that goes to con 1. Now fuse does...

Chances are a power transistor has shorted. Sometimes input rectifier diodes short or electrolytic caps.

Here is a hint to troubleshoot this: Connect a 150 watt lamp in series with the hot side of the power line to the amp. This will limit the current (and voltage) and prevent the fuse from blowing. You can do a lot of troubleshooting at the much reduced voltage.

If board is burnt to carbon, this "cancer" needs to be cut out and removed as the blackened board is slightly conducive instead of an insulator. Often a circuit trace has fried the board. One must install jumpers around ones that have smoked.
