Just be sure to test your stitch on scraps if you are using a serger for your seams. Heavy sweater knit requires some tweaking of the settings. Hems are sometimes tough as well. You may want to try alternative hems like lettuce, or bound...depends on your pattern, etc. Let us know what 6the outcome is

The needle keep on breaking because it stich on the plate

Your needle alignment may need to be adjusted. Sometimes this happens if you pull the material rather than let the machine feed it. I took my HV in and it was alignment. For less than 30.00 they realigned it and now works like a charm, no more breaking needles!

When sewing hems and coming across a thick seam, the pressure foot seems to not allow the material to run through, keeping it stalled while the needle continues to pump into the material eventually...

I don't think you can adjust the feed pressure on this machine. I have the same machine and the same problem and my solution is the same as you've already mentioned - raise the foot and move the fabric by hand. I would do it by turning the wheel by hand until the seam is clear of the foot to prevent breaking a needle or sewing my fingers.

Thread keeps breaking when sewing through thicker materials

When you sew any thick material on any machine the needle cannot form the loop properly as the needle comes up because the material is keep the tread tight to the needle, the only real way round it is to sew slowly.

try to reduce needle thread tension. if no improvement then remove and look closely for any sharp point in bobbin case holder mechanism that may be breaking thread.

The needle thread on my bernina minimatic keeps breaking.

There is special thread for denim/jeans. It usually comes in shades of brown. It's a little heavier and might help with the breakage. You might also want to try a little less tension. I assume you already have a Schmetz denim needle?

Try a different needle, matched to the weight of your fabric.

Janome left needle thread breaking CONSTANTLY

Sounds like a tension problem. Your machine should have two tension adjusters. One for each needle. The book that came with your machine will tell you how. Another possibility is a bent needle.

Problems when sewing over heavy jean hems

Are you using the correct type of needle? have a word with your needle supplier and explain the problem. Different threads and different thickness material need different top and bottom tension adjustments.
Can I suggest sew one thickness material at a time with tension adjustments for that thickness. Then change the tensions and do a batch of thicker material.
