There's a problem with the OS in the registry, the unit itself doesn't need a driver, the OS supports it directly.
OS = Windows Operating System.
Try the unit on a different system. If it works, look to your system registry
if it doesn't , the unit may be defective (most likely is)

USB devices not recognised or not working properly?

Try these steps to reinitialize your usb ports on your pc

1. Unplug ALL USB devices connected to the computer. If you are using a USB mouse and keyboard, temporarily use the older type PS/2 devices if you have them, if you don't then just leave them connected.

2. Hold down the windows key and press r

3. Type devmgmt.msc into the run menu and press ok

4. Click on the + sign next to the Universal Serial Bus Controllers

5. You might need another mouse to do this if you have a usb mouse.. I recommend you get a ps2 connector mouse which goes into the green round connector in the back of your pc.

6. Right click and uninstall first the usb root hubs. all of them then uninstall the rest of the devices you see under Universal serial bus controllers

7. Ones you have uninstalled everything you should see the Universal serial bus controllers there at all.

8. Now go ahead and restart your pc.

9. Ones you have restarted the pc your usb ports will reinstall in a moment stand by while it installs all of them. If you get warning messages click ok or continue installation.

10. Now go ahead and plug the usb devices back in. Install software if required, all usb devices if not faulty or broken should work now. Also note the error code if you get one?

This solution doesn't fix all usb problems so if you have a yellow ! mark there and device status reports a error code. Then it might not be a problem with your usb ports.

You need to make sure you have selected the correct COM port whin you try to print. Depending on the type of USB to serial converter, the COM port it assigns can change just by moving it to another USB port. Right-click on My Computer and select MANAGE. Select Device Manager from the list. Click on the (+) next to PORTS and double-click on your USB-SERIAL device COM port. Somewhere in the Properties window you should be able to see the assigned COM port (COM1, COM2, etc.). If possible, set the COM port to COM1 or COM2 for greatest compatibility with older software. Then when you print, make sure your printer driver is also set to the same COM port.

Singer.com's FAQs provide the following:

Q. My computer only has USB ports. Can you recommend a Serial (nine pin) to USB converter cable that will work with the Professional Sew Ware™ 2.00a? A. We have found that the PSW works best on newer computers when the USB serial adapter cable has not only compatible drivers for the Windows operating system but also a FTDI chip. We have found this FTDI chip in the cable which is listed below:
CUSB-232A available from Computerplug.com and Cablesalesusa.com.
Any USB to serial adapter with an FTDI chip will work. These cables will work for Windows XP, VISTA, and 7.

Installed usb to db26F converter to use printer

Ok reinstall as Administrator, use "Compatibility mode" for install and the run .exe, also run software as Administrator. too. Often these devices, USB - Serial Ports are NO GOOD for a printer. Either install a real Serial Port. or get a new printer. Windows 7 will NOT help either, it doesn't like older equipment.

Device not ready

CNET's review states that this camera connects to USB, but no mention is made of it being compatible with USB2. Theoretically it should be compatible since USB2 ports are supposed to be backwards compatible with USB 1.1. Yet I have other USB 1.1 devices which will cause "device not ready" error messages when I try to connect them to a USB2 port. Interestingly, the CNET article doesn't list Windows XP as a compatible OS. Another person posted that he received the same error message when trying to connect his camera to his 64-bit XP computer.

In any event, Largan's web site doesn't make any mention of them producing complete cameras -- only camera components. Perhaps their foray into the digital camera market was less than successful.

So, while this isn't truly a solution post, perhaps it may point you in the right direction as to possible causes of the device not ready error message.
