Question about KitchenAid Refrigerators

1 Answer

The ice maker freezes up and doesn't produce ice. It caused a backup of water which flooded the floor. We replaced the connecting hose and the symptoms have remained the same....no flooding but also no ice and the water gets frozen before getting to the ice maker.

Replace the dual water control valve is the only solution to fix this problem. Once the water control begins to leak slowly to the ice maker water goes everywhere but the correct place. The next step is to locate your model number=> Locating Model and Serial Numbers I will be glad to assist you if you have any questions, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Why did ice maker flood, then stop getting water?

The flooding was the water control valve letting you know it was about to fail. Now, it has failed closed. The failure could have been caused by buildup of mineral deposits from the water source.

How do I stop my ice maker water filler hose from freezing - which stops water from filling the tray?

This problem is caused by a defective water control valve that does not stop leaking water like a dripping faucet. This causes water to freeze in the water fill tube thus blocking fill of ice tray. Replace water control valve.

Ksrp25fnbl00 Ice maker stopped producing ice

ksrp25fnbl00 ice maker has stopped making ice. It appears that the water supply that comes down from the top of the interior cabinet is freezing and this is causing the ice tray not to refill. What would cause this?

Our Ice maker is not producing ice. I've tried using a hair dryer to melt possible frozen water. It worked once, but now that ice maker is back to not producing ice.

The heating element is not working to heat the base and free the ice from the tray. At this point it's probably better to just replace the ice maker. They are about 60-70$

Ice maker has stopped making ice. Infa-red light on inside doesn't seem to be working

One of the causes of ice maker not producing ice is a bad solenoid valve allowing water to pass by and causing the water line to freeze inside the freezer. In other words, if the valve is not holding very well, it will allow water to pass in the line that supplies water to the ice maker. A small drip will ensue and slowly freeze in the line and eventually turn into an ice plug that will prevent water from filling the ice tray. Thawing out the freezer will not solve the problem, you will have to replace the solenoid valve.

P.S.Test the solenoid valve coil and disconnect the line from the valve to verify that it is not allowing water to pass when not energized. Test the infra red module according the manufacturer's instructions if you have them at hand. If the solenoid valve is good and the infrared sensor system is bad , replace it (Infrared system) . The ice maker should be the last part to consider for replacement at this time.

The freezer isn't making alot of ice. Can the hose behind the ice maker freeze?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

When a refrigerator slows down ice production it is usually the result of poor air-flow through the evaporator coils. The poor air-flow is due to ice build up on the evaporator coils. The ice build up happens because the unit is not defrosting properly or the evaporator fan is not running at full speed.

To answer your question "Can an Ice-maker tube freeze?" Yes, they can and do freeze but when they do freeze that is caused by a defective inlet water valve that is leaking water by when it is supposed to be shut off. It can freeze if some one set the temp control to MAX cold. Additionally when they do freeze and the Ice-maker cycles the plastic hose on the back of the unit pops out of the ice maker tube and each cycle starts porting ice maker fill water on the floor.

This may sound odd.. but. Perform a manual defrost by removing the freezer contents and directing a fan into the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours. (Makes a water mess so do not leave it unattended) The return the unit to normal service and after 8 hours start watching the amount of ice produced. (Should be normal for 2 days!) If after 2 days the ice production slows again you have an automatic defrosting problem that is causing the ice build up on the evaporator coils.

If you need any more assistance please include your complete model number in any future responses.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

My automatic ice maker is not makin ice anymore, looks like the water hose is filled with ice, how do u either remove the hose or defrost it thanks

This problem begins with a slow leaking 4389177 Dual Water Control Valve kit at the ice maker side of the valve on rear of refrigerator near floor. As the water slowly leaks upward to the ice maker the water freezes. Best thing for now is shut off water supply at its source until you are able to get a replacement kit part 4389177 You may defrost the tube with a hair drier but until the leaky valve is replaced you will continue to get a freezing mess. Hope this has helped answer your questions, Thanks, Sea Breeze sea_breeze_59.jpg Appliance Technician

The plastic hose at the back of the icemaker freezes up causing the hose to push off the connection to the ice maker. as a result water leaks on to the floor.

Sounds like the temperature setting in the freezer is too low. Move it up a bit and see if the freezing on the outside still occurs.

Maytag ice2o won't make ice

theharrisont,  You state that...." ice maker stopped working after it flooded our kitchen floor."  The water works because the water fountain dispenser uses a separate part of the Water Valve. The ice maker portion of the water valve is defected and the entire Water Valve Assembly will have to be replaced.  Your problem is the dual Water Valve Assembly which is located on the rear bottom area of the refrigerator (follow the water inlet line from the wall to the refrigerator...the water inlet line connects to the Water Valve Assembly).  The significant info which you provided was that the ice maker flooded the kitchen which indicates the Water Valve Assembly is defected. Failure to replace the Water Valve Assembly will result in the same problem of flooding at some later date.  Replacing the dual Water Valve Assembly is just one step of several steps necessary to correct the problem.  You will also have to temporarily remove the ice maker from the freezer (usually a couple of screws hold it to the wall and a quick disconnect electrical plug) and put it in the sink and run warm water over to remove any ice.  Before you reinstall the ice maker you must check the Water Fill Tube that dumps the water into the ice maker.  Because you said that the ice maker flooded the kitchen, then the Water Fill Tube is probably filled solid with ice which must be removed.  A hair dryer is a quick way to achieve this.  Blow hot air directly into the end of the Water Fill Tube which dumps the water into the ice maker.  Note:  Use a long screw driver to insert into the Water Fill Tube to break loose any ice and continue to use the hair dryer to help to remove any ice. This should correct your problem
