Here is a link to maytag dryer repairs http://apcoappliancerepair.wordpress.com/?s=maytag+dryer . The most common problem is the thermal fuse. My question is. Does the heating element start to light. If not...... and you have changed the ignitor and thermal fuse. Then check the flame sensor to see if there is continuity threw it. Power to the gas coils and ignitor runs threw the flame sensor. CLICK HERE to see a flame sensor on a GE dryer. They are the same on most units but Maytag will be on the opposite side of burner chamber.

Maytag gas dryer flame comes on but will not stay on

Your ignition unit may be worn out and will need to be replaced. Generally, a heating element comes on and once it reaches a certain temperature, it ignites the gas pilot. Then the heating element cools off because the gas is now burning and producing heat. When this heating element stops working correctly, it will not reach the right temperature to ignite the gas. You'll need to have a professional perform the repair. If the dryer is still under warranty, this might be covered.
We had ours replaced several years ago by a reasonably priced repairman. It bought us another 8 hears on our dryer!

When i turn on dryer the flame comes on for about 5 seconds and then goes out and tries to light again in about 40 seconds

I assume that since you're stating that your dryer has a "flame" that it is a natural gas or propane dryer. Is this correct? If so, you might have a problem with the dryer's pressure regulating device which limits that amount of gas that is supplied to your unit. You will most likely need to have someone certified to work on your natural gas appliance if this is bad or to check the unit any further. If you don't have a true "flame" within your dryer, your dryer is heated by an "element" that is electrical. This element may be going bad if its no longer heating. If you are somewhat handy, you can replace this element but will have to find one that fits your unit. It may be difficult to find one but you may find one on-line. Good luck.

My dryer does not have heat.

If the heating element has a flame starter, turn off the gas for five minutes and re-light the flame. If it's a piazo starter, you need a new one.

How to replace heating element Maytag Performa gas dryer pyg2300aww?

Your model number indicates a gas dryer. It does not have a heating element. It has a glowbar igniter,a flame sensor and a gas valve. Either the glowbar igniter is bad or the flame sensor or the gas valve coils or the thermal fuse.

Many gas appliances have safety devices that all need to be functional or you will not be sucessfull in passing fuel to the burner assembly.
There are 2 or 3 electrically controled coils on the gas valve (electromagnetic), these lift a pin in the control and gas flows as requested, these can fail and are realatively inexpensive and easy to replace, $4-25 depending on how many and where purchased.
Other sensors are 2-limit thermostats, radiant sensor, heat sensors, motor temp sensor, humidity sensor, switches (door etc.) all must function in the system to allow correct performance, lastly control panel, also most problems involve cleanlyness of the entire system and all associted exhaust piping.
There are no appliances that are free from maintanance so all require inspections and regular cleanings.
