Question about Whirlpool Ultimate Care II LSQ9549L Top Load Washer

1 Answer

My washer is relatively new but won't kick into its high speed spin anymore. It washes normally, does its rinse thing, but then stays in the low speed spin. I have done all kinds of washes to determine if I have somehow forgotten how to wash clothes correctly. But whether there are lots of clothes, no clothes, a large load setting, a small load setting, an extra rinse, detergent, no detergent, the results are the same: my clothes are still wet. Of course, the lighter clothes are less wet than the heavier clothes because of the low speed spin, but they are still pretty wet. I know now that I should have just bought a new washer to begin with, but I called the repairman and have dropped a few hundred by replacing the timer first and then the clutch when it became apparent that the timer wasn't the problem, but to no avail. Obviously, its personal now and this washer is going to work so well that my children's children will be begging to inherit this thing. So does anyone know what the problem could be? I could call the repairman again, but I have lost faith in his ability to diagnose and repair my washer. Somehow, I value the advice of an internet stranger more at this point.

I think that unit is a direct drive common problem with them is they lose there nuetral drain// meaning it should drain before it spins////put a pencil down in the lid switch hole make sure it stays in place as the machine cannot be interrupted////start a wash cycle as you normally would let it fill and wash and drain (let it go on its own to the compleat cycle) now what you are looking for is at the end of the wash and the rinse cycles the washer should drain completly before it starts to spin. if it is spinning with the water in it it can not get up to speed before the timer runs out of time..hope this helped you out if you need more help get in touch good luck

Thanks for the advice zernken. I have read about the direct drive issue and wondered if that was my problem. Your explanation helps a lot. I don't think drain timing is my issue though.

I have repeated loads three or for times for just the high speed spin cycle (beginning with only wet clothes in the tub), and I get the same results. I have also yanked open the lid just as the rinse finishes and the load begins to spin, and the tub is empty. But seriously, thanks for letting me know that these things need to build momentum; whenever I get this ****** fixed I will try to keep my curiosity at bay and leave the secret door of mystery closed so the Whirlpool fairy can do her magic. Come to think of it, I bet that a new Whirlpool fairy will be the next part my repairman recommends. I wish they weren't so difficult to imprison in the agitator, or I would just do it myself.

It sounds like a problem with the agitator. Simply remove softener insert and just below that is a seal easily removed and then a 7/16'' bolt. The clutch mechanism between base and upper agitators is probably loose or broken.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

GE GFWN1100LWW. Can the high speed spin work on the lower wash cycles?

From my experience, the lower wash cycles are set to only do certain things. For example: the Delicate won't do a high speed spin, even though a high speed spin wouldn't really be destructive to delicates, but would force more water out of them! I usually just run a "Drain/Spin" after the Delicate cycle.

Kenmore washer won't fast spin

On most modern Washing Machines there will be an engineers program. To get into it there will be a key or button press combination.
You should be able to reset and control functions from there.

Google your Model with Engineer Program etc.

Either the wire going to motor for non working speed is loose or damaged, or motor is bad. It could also possibly be timer not sending power to motor for that speed.

Motor has some shorted windings. Timer switches to higher current for faster rotation and the thermal overload protection shuts the process off as the current is too high because of the shorted windings.

we can eliminate the motor and the switch since that part is working. sound like your timer might be faulty, timer make everything work in persistence cycles, if its goes bad sometime it tend to jump/skip cycles.

Will not high spin

The brake assembly is failing ,try this if you can, loosen the 3 transmission bolts about a quarter inch and try it in spin.If it picks up speed than you are going to be due to have the break assembly replaced.High cost repair. :(
