Is it possible

Hi Ginko,

Just got a question, I know it is possible for computer 2 to get on the internet by dialling into computer 1 via phone to get on the internet through computer 1's DSL connection. I just cant remember how, do you have any idea how to do it? If im not mistaken you have to bridge the DSL and dial up modem somehow.

Thanks

The computer 2 by the way is in another location. Im trying to set this up so that I can have the DSL setup at home and then when I do field work I can access my network as well as the internet through any phone line without having to signup to dial up or setup any internet connection at that location.

Hi, yes it is possible but it is not a good solution. If you are using Windows XP try configuring network using network wizard to configure as "this computer connects to the internet through another computer".
This setting does not always work straight away as you usually have to set up firewall.
AWith this set up the computer connected to the modem will act as a proxy, repeating the signal on the other computer.
This solution will make navigation slower, force you to keep low firewall defences.
Best thing to do is buying a modem or modem router and build network using a router.

Sorry, I did not see you where using hyperterminal, thought you were connecting by ethernet.
If you use hyperterminal you need a management software to use one of the computer as a proxy, and the whole thing, if it work will be extremely slow when you try to access internet from remote computer at home.
More than Hyperterminal you need to build a VPN between the two computers and set the remote one as proxy server.

I'm getting good internet signals to the modem, but am unable to connect to the computer. Any idea why?

How are you connected? USB or Ethernet from the Modem to the computer? Do you have other internet devices on your network? Vonage (Internet Phone Box), Another computer, Gaming console.

If you have 1 device connected - then reset your modem by removing the power cord for 10 seconds.
Replug your power after 10 seconds. Then check and see if your computer has a connection.

If you have many (2 or more devices) on this network then get a Router. and Newegg.com
You can connect as many devices to a router, but the modem will only be one..

These are the most simplest possible solutions. Otherwise contact Motorola. Your Internet service provider could check your modem for signal and communication problems.

How do I do file transfers from one wireless laptop on a westell 6100 dsl model to another wireless laptop on the same modem. Neither laptop in connected to the modem via eithernet. how would I set this...

Hi There.. Please follow te below steps..

1) Connect your old computer to the wireless network. Nowadays most people use the internet through a wireless network. So basically, if you have wireless internet and you are able to get on the internet... that means you are connected.

2) Go into the networks settings. This is usually as simple as right clicking the network's icon and then clicking properties. What you want to do is turn on, "file and printer sharing" within the network

3) Now, go to the folders/data that you want to transfer. Right click or get into the properties of that folder. Check the box that says "share this folder with network".

4) On the new computer, connect to the wireless network. Under control panel or possibly the start menu, there should be an option for "My Network Places" or "My Network". In this folder you should find the data that you chose to share from your old computer. You can simply copy/paste or drag/drop the files to your new computer.

Now you are offset to transfer the files from one laptop to another...

Have system for voip. Only can't hook up the

Try getting a router that has one in/4 out between modem n voip. Your voip unit should have an RJ45 connector to connect to router, not your computer. The USB connector might be to connect the voip to a different type of router, and will not be used. The 2 phone connectors are for two different phone lines that your voip provider can provide you with.

Two computers will not access internet at the same time.

It is not possible to have 2 computers using one phone line at the same time.... However, you can use what's called internet sharing. You will need a network card for both computers, a cross over cable to plug each computer together and then one of the computers will connect to the dial up source.

Be prepared for really bad performance on both computers. You are more than cutting your speed in half by doing this.

If you have the option for DSL or cable I highly suggest you take that approach and save alot of frustration.

Please rate my solution and thanks for using FixYa,

Good Luck

The modem will not connect to the internet via USB (only ethernet

It sounds like you need to download a driver for the modem's usb connectivity. You can do this by "googleing" the make & model from the manufacturer's website.

How to connect linksys router with aztech adsl modem

To setup your router
first check..
Connect the Broadband modem to the computer using an Ethernet cable without the router installed and make sure that the Internet connection is active. If it is not, contact your Internet Service Provider. If it can go online,
to setup connection..
Step 1:
Connect the Broadband modem to the router’s WAN or Internet port.
Step 2:
Connect the computer to any available numbered port (1, 2, 3 or 4).
NOTE: In this example, we’ll connect the computer to port number 3.
Step 3:
Make sure the power adapter is plugged to an available power outlet.
Step 4:
check if you are able to go online wired..
if not your router has to be configured first,
to config your router i need some more information
your internet service providers (isp)name , and how many computers do u have totally..

I can't get my computer on the internet . I am using windows xp and the modem will not get the internet on the dell computer

Hi, This modem can be used via one of two ports: ethernet port (network port) or USB port If your computer has an ethernet port, it is perferable that you connect through this as you will have better performance. If you don't then you can get an ethernet card installed inside the CPU. If it's not possible to connect via this connection and you have to use the USB, then you will need drivers. This website gives you full instructions on how to use this particular modem and also gives you the USB drivers if needed. http://www.triadtwcable.com/template_media/cablemodems/rca245.htm Good luck!
