Universal remotes My original remote stopped working. Somedays it would, then th next day it wouldn't. Threw it away or actually I threw against the wall and it broke. I have bought 5 universal remotes. Three I was unable to program and get to work. Took them back. Two actually worked for a day, then they quit, then they worked, then they quit. Took them back. Batteries were fresh, new. Must be the tv. Now I'm without one. Help! I may throw the TV out. The model is TVK131, S/L# J42172535, Oct., 2001.

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Our old ( I mean old ) Sony Trinitron (Which the remote was broken one day and my younger brother aged 4 at the time threw it in the fire while the fireguard was off when my mum was throwing coal into it )...

Maybe- If you know where the buttons are located, press them and look for 'Setup' or 'OSD' (on-screen display). You shuld be able to find the off-on setting that way. Also, the best remote I've ever owned (there have been many 'universal') is a Chunghop RM-L988 and the guide for standard TVs contains 17 entries for Sony as well as being a 'learning' remote with a total of 11 different devices. It costs <$20 US with free shipping here:

An original remote can probably be found here:
You should always include the complete model number since there were many Trinitron sets and detailed help is not possible without the actual model number.

Cannot get the tv into 'video1' (or ' video2') mode

Unfortunately you need the original remote. There is still a good chance you can find a Sanyo universal remote. Check your local Circuit city or Super K mart or Walmart and look inthe electronics sections. I have often seen the Sanyo universal remote! And yes it will have the options you are looking for. Good Luck!

Universal Jumbo Remote

one way is to buy another remote, just like the one you have, don't throw away ANYTHING, keep your receipt, look at the directions or maybe copy them, and then return the remote to where you bought it and get your money back (or credit, whatever) and tell them your significant other got a better one.
