The washer fills at the correct rate during both the wash cycle and rinse cycle using either temperature water. However, the problem is during the rinse cycle - the water runs in the machine at the same rate but it will only fill to the small load level. If I hit the reset button at that time...it will continue to fill to the appropriate large level amount.

I suspect the cold water valve is the problem. It really doesn't matter what the temperature switch is set to because most rinses are cold water.
Set the temperature switch to warm and start a fill. While the washer is filling turn the spigot to the hot water valve off and see how the cold valve is filling.
If the cold valve is filling slowly and the hot is okay you can even swap the hoses and see if the problem swaps.
Replacing the inlet valve will most likely correct this problem. It can be obtained from the following link: Sears PartsDirect .
The other question that is usually asked is how I access the water valve to change it. This information is in the image below and will be helpful to you if you change the valve yourself. Your particular washer has two end caps that must be removed to access the two screws holding the console down.
I hope this information is helpful to resolve this problem.

If you are sure the inlet valve is good....ensure the washer is not draining on the rinse cycle or siphoning the water out.

Now Let's check the pressure switch and tube. Note the video link

Run the machine with hot only, and then cold only. Post back your results.

My whirlpool washer periodically gets stuck on rinse.. the water continues to run but its only about half full so it must be draining. My water bill was over $100 last month, please help.

check the lid switch, if it isn't working right the machine will not enter the spin cycle, also the timer may be going bad, it could stay stuck in between the rinse fill and rinse cycle

Our machine works fine, but the water just trckles in when it adds water for the rinse cycles. It can take 20 minutes to fill the tub.

Check to see if there's good water volume coming through the hoses attached to the washing machine. If there is, check to see if the screens inside the water-inlet valve are clean. (The water-inlet valve is the device on the washing machine that the fill hoses are attached to.) If they're clean, you probably have a defective water-inlet valve. If so, you should completely replace the valve. Replace the water valve with this part.

I have exactly the same problem. I am currently getting around the issue by letting the machine do the washing then at the end of that cycle do a manual rinse cycle.

Kenmore 80 series washer will sometimes not fill in rinse cycle, sometimes half fill, sometimes 1/4. fills fine for start but not rinse????

HI, This will be the result of a failing control sector. The control sector can be a timer module, or a single printed circuit board. In any case, this will be your culprit. Have this damaged control replaced, asap. Once replaced, your unit will operate correctly.

Washer will not fill in rinse cycle.

hi, When the washer acts up in the rinse cycle, will it try and fill and then the water starts going out the drain hose? If this is the case, the drain hose is either needs to be raised to be as high as the top of the washer or, it needs to have a loose fitting where it goes into the drain pipe so it can have air **** back into the drain hose after it releases the wash water.
i know this is a lot of info that might not even be the answer but, I am giving you the most common fix. Please let me know if I have answered your question or let me know if I can assist you further.
If this does not seem to be the answer, maybe I need clarification.
