You are unable to upgrade for Windows XP to 7, you have to do a fresh install which involves a format which will mean you will lose all of your data unless you back it up
if you are running Vista you cannot upgrade from Vista 64bit to 7 32bit, again you have to do a fresh install
to do a fresh install insert the Windows disc and reboot your computer, make sure your computer has it's boot priority set to
1. DVD Drive
and if that's done correctly just follow the prompts to install windows.
