No sound on video

Sounds like either a blown main power fuse or power transformer. If the fuse is blown it probably means a short in the amp somewhere. If it is the transformer, it can be replaced - but may cost more than the unit did.

It would've been helpful to know what device you are on about however it could be a codec problem. Google for K-Lite codec pack and install.

This sounds like a hardware problem ... please contact your service provider for advice in repairing or replacing your handset.

Yes you will need a 3.5mm to RCA/composite cable and you should also most likely have an S-video out on your laptop so you will need an s-video cable.
If you need more help give me exact make/model of laptop. Also what connections your tv has.

What happens when you rotate the plug or wriggle it about. If it cuts in and out, then you may have a faulty interconnect lead, or a dodgy socket/plug connection to the player. If it works with headphones, I would suggest replacing the lead.

It seems you are having a tracking problem. When the tracking is out of sync, you will notice digitized drop out then even audio distorts. It is caused possibly by shift in mechanical system or changed value of electronic components in tracking circuit. It is standard repair cost to remedy this kind of problem. Probably cost you around $125-200 in US repair shops.
