Question about Samsung Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a side by side model SRS584DP and the ice cube tray will not empty the ice into the bin, consequently when it returns to the fill mode it overflows the water into the freezer. I have tried the test button and it goes through the motions fine but does not eject the ice out of the cube tray. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Regards Ross

Hello Calvin,

Welcome to FixYa.

Based on what you've described, specifically, " I have tried the test button and it goes through the motions fine but does not eject the ice out of the cube tray " the heater in the icemaker mold is faulty...or the icemaker head which turns it on & off.

This will require a complete icemaker to resolve the issua since that is how Samsung sells their parts...complete components.

If it is not a Samsung let me know, you may have other options as far as parts go. Let me know if you require help in any other manner going forward.

Why ice maker doesn't work

The ice maker is a pretty simple device... needing only water and (its own) power to operate (there is a hidden fuse in some circuits). The refrigerator should be level (a mix between good door closure and generally equal cubes).

Minor adjustments can be made for cube "done-ness" and tray fill level by following owners manual instructions.

If you don't have any cubes... your ice-maker is not at fault. You need to focus on your water valves.

The biggest reason ice-makers stop operating is the bin-fill wire gets inadvertently pushed up... which halts operation.

It is in fact a switch... easily remedied.

If you can look into the space and you see the wire is in the "up" position... GENTLY flip it down with your finger. It should drop freely down to measure the level of the ice (and stop when the bin is full). Your device is fine and should resume operation.

Otherwise you need to start looking for a stray ice cube... they can fall back ... freeze to the new load... and prevent operation,

If you cannot remove the ice blockage...The remedy here is a full defrost.

Empty (and remove power from) the freezer.
Open the door (a room fan would be great (not a heater))... but keep your electrical devices from getting wet or the consequences could be fatal... if not shocking.

Good luck.

((If the stuck ice cubes begin to be a chronic issue SENSIBLE fixers will try to purchase a new ice tray and retro-fit it onto their existing ICE-MAKER head... Here is where I STRONGLY SUGGEST you buy the entire HEAD UNIT... I'm just saying... another decade of trouble free CUBES could be worth a few dollars more... and the NEW TRAY approach never worked for me!))

Ice cubes aren't as shown. Have a single wide, with freezer at bottom. Contractor who installed didn't show me where or how to get ice cubes to put into the tray and it's almost empty. Make it simple.

there should be a wire arm that is over top the tray it moves up as try fills with ice then cuts it off when tray is full..but it could be that the wire is in the off mode that is when it is pushed up into locking mode just lower it into tray by pushing up and let it down into tray

How does the ice maker work. I see a bin on the freezer side that is empty. Do I fill it with water?

No ,please don't do that. That tray collects ice cubes. System fill is automatic. Look for a wire arm of some kind and make sure it is in down or "make ice" position .Then give it plenty of time to cycle.

Leak from the ice maker

I would first try to determine if the tray is level. There are usually screws that allow some side to side adjustment.

If the tray itself is actually leaking, you probably will have to replace the icemaker unit.

Ice cubes are frozen but will not eject into the ice bin.

Use a hair blow dryer to warm up the frozen cubes and get them out of there. Then while the ice cube forming tray is empty dry it off and spray it with PAM cooking spray or another cooking spray similar to it.

Ice maker not ejecting ice and then tries to fill tray and leaks

The Ice Maker Tray had a small plastic piece break off. This piece aids the tray in bending to dislodge the ice from the tray. Bosch does not just sell the tray, you will have to buy the whole ice maker assembly. You will need to order Part # 0422 from Bosch. I was not very happy about having to spend $112.00 for this whole assembly when all I really needed was a simple ice cube tray.
Save the $112 and remove the ice maker. Buy Ice at the grocery store.

LG ice maker only making two ice cubes at a time

Colenoid in the ice dispenser may be clogged or have a small amount of trash in it. Is there a filter on before the fridge (just after the ice maker shutoff)?

there is a double valve at the back bottom lhs. check continuity of both valve coils but doubtfull this is the problem. the fault may be that the filling tube is frozen. try looking in this area
