Question about Dell Dimension™ E510 PC Desktop

Why has my Dell computer gotten very slow? I have had ZoneAlarm as my firewall and AVG for antivirus for several years. I do not open attachments unless I'm absolutely sure they are safe.

You can speed up your computer by:

-- cleaning system junk
-- optimizing computer services
-- optimizing internet
-- repairing registry
-- defraging registry
-- clearing browsers junk

do these things with some secure tool such as Intel Software Partner Reginout.

Thank you..

If you have a lot of internet cookies it can slow your system down. Your computer stores virtually everything that goes onto it. Go to MY COMPUTER double click and go to your C: drive. Right click and go down to PROPERTIES click on it. Go up to TOOLS. Click on it and go to DEFRAGMENT NOW. Run that and see if it helps.

What are you running on this computer? Xp? You can have multiple things that need reviewing just as your car would. Your hard drive could be getting close to it's limit. The more it holds the slower it goes, because the operating system has to scan through more files. Your virtual or physical memory may need upgrading. You could run a check disk scan to Identify and repair and issues. http://www.ehow.com/how_2037270_run-chkdsk.html You can also you a scanner such a ccleaner.

I am glad to HELP YOU!

So if I got it right - you are in search for a good antivirus for your Windows 7 running on 64-bits...
Well, I have some suggestions for you. All of them are FREE and are working smoothly:
1. [number one in top] AVG Free Edition
I'm using this one on my 64-bits machine [now...!] for years [also on the previous machines] and I can tell you I am VERY SATISFIED with it! It does an amazing job. You can take it from HERE.
2. Avira Free Antivirus
It is OK and I have friends that are sticking with it from a long-long time. Get it from HERE.
3. Avast Antivirus
It's good and it's reliable. You can find it HERE.

I do also recommend you a GOOD FIREWALL that - together with the antivirus - will make a super-shield for your computer. You can get ZoneAlarm [FREE EDITION] from HERE.

GOOD LUCK!

Tip

How protect Computer from Viruses infection

1. Get a good Antivirus Software. (you can try FREE AVG, Microsoft security essential etc)
2.
Keep the Antivirus Software updated with latest Virus signatures.
3.
Use an Internet Firewall.(I use free pc tool firewall plus, zone alarm)
4.
If you are Microsoft Windows user, turn on automatic updating.
5.
Never open an e-mail attachment from someone you don’t know.
6.
Avoid opening an e-mail attachment from someone you know, unless you know exactly what the attachment is. The sender may be unaware that it contains a virus.

DOES NORTON MAKE A COMPUTER SLOW MY COMPUTRER IS REALLY SLOW AND SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT IS ONE OF THE REASONS AND TO USE A DIFFERENT SECURITY AND SOME ONE ELSE SAID TO CHANGE MY BROSER DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO...

You are caught between a rock and a hard place.

Norton, and ALL security software use a fair amount of resources. They are there to protect you.

You cannot expect a good and constant monitoring program to be light, unless you use a low quality security program that is near useless.

I wish these programs were also smaller, but with today's severe threats, we need severe protection.

Please put up with Norton or you may download free security programs which are excellent from this link: -

Norton or avg free edition?

Both AVG and nod32 are quite good against viruses, but being only antivirus, and not a complete security suite, are both weak against other malaware threats.

If you do not want to buy a complete security suite like Nornon internet security, or Macafee security sute you can buy either AVG or nod32. Install a firewall like Zonealarm or similar to integrate the antivirus protection. AVG takes less RAM than nod 32, otherwise performances are similar.

If you are really worried about additional threats, you can integrate a free antivirus with a firewall and a good antimalaware like Spybot-S&D. This may slow down the computer a bit.

To set up security

Hello

To setup security on your desktop computer, you basicly need

  • antivirus software
  • firewall software
  • antispyware software
  1. http://www.avast.com/ (antivirus take the home, its free 14months registeration is free, free for home use, after 14months you can register again, free of charge, I have used this software for few years)
  2. Comodo firewall http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/ or zonealarm firewall www.zonealarm.com
  3. Spybot antispyware software http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html you need to run this program 1-4 times a month to keep your pc clean. it doesn't work on the background like the firewall and antivirus.

Linksys wrt54g router

Hi,
First of all, good questions.
To answer your first question, most linksys routers come with firewalls, but im not positive about this particular one.
Now for youur second one, installing a firewall ill work with linksys, Zonealarm is good, I also reccomend AVG.
Even if the router comes with a firewall, I would install one anyway, to be safe.
Hope this helps, and good luck :)
