I realize your in a hurry but help us help you, We can not pass you "how to information" without a make and model number as there are different makes and model nubers that do not all have the same procedures.

Check for a block of ice behind the backwall of the freezer... and make sure that the evaporator fan (freezer) runs when the door is closed. Flashing red light could be a door alarm.. and be something as simple as a bad door switch. See if you can find the door switch plinger in the door fold area and depress that to see if the light goes out and the fan starts.

Also if there is a block of ice behind the freezer compartment evaporator access panel / cover you must do a manual defrost with an external fan for just over 2 hours, unit unplugged and freezer compartment contents removed. (makes a water mess)

Another question... is there anything that identifies the red light indication?

Comments above are very generic as you did not include your make and model number. Please provide that information in any future responses.

If I read the manual right the red light indicator your seeing is the exlamation point above the fast freeze button. This is telling you that the freezer compartment temp is to high.

There can be multiple reasons for this:
1. Evaporator fan not running (Check fan by depressing door closed plunger for the light switch) The fan should be on and light off.

2. An unseen block of ice over the evaporator coils due to an automatic defrosting probelm. If you can determine that there really is ice on the evaporator coils, perform the manual defrost procedures I described in my initial response. If after doing this manual defrost things return to normal for a few days and then you see the high temp indicator again there is for sure and automatic defrosting problem.

3. Automatic Defrost Problem (Causes)
a. Defrost control failure
b. Defrost control heating element failure
c. Temp sensor failure or Bi-metal 60 Deg F thermostat failure

4. Condenser fan not running in the borrom rear of the unit. (Check to see that the fan is running by removing the fiberboard rear cover.)

5. Condenser coils blocked with lint (Check the coils when you inspect the condensor fan for operation.) Clean both the coils and the fan.

6. Thermistor failure (measures temp and has a resistive output) in the freezer.

7. Compressor not running (Causes)
a. PTC relay
b. Run capacitor
c. Conpressor failure

8. Compressor running but not cooling
Check to see that one of the copper lines line is hot to the touch. If it is not hot the causes can be low freon level, clogged freon drier, damaged capillary tube.

These are all the things that can cause your current symptom.

My fridgedaire fridge FRT856embg wont get cold on the bottom

Im not familure with this item but on the older style fridge ice would build up in the freezer blocking the air ways to the bottom half of the fridge in this case you would need to remove the food from the freezer and fridge and unplug it open the doors and let it thaw out for a day or so I wish you luck and I hope this was helpful

I have a side by side double door fridge. My freezer is cold and working fine but my fridge side is not getting cold.

check yor damper door, it's the little door at the top and or bottom of the fridge insid near the top and or at the bottom behind the crisper drawer when working right they open to let cold air in from the freezer and warm air out. top one cold in, bottom one warm air out.they work on a sensor/relay when the freezer fan goes on they open when cold air is needed.

Bottom half of fridge and freezer are cold top half warm?

This sounds like an air flow issue, If your freezer fan is running still you may have a defrost problem starting in the freezer cooling coils. This will cause the cold from the freezer to back flow into the bottom of the fridge and only the lower half of the freezer to keep very cold.
Most likely culprit for defrost issues would be the terminating thermostat (inside freezer behind back wall and clips to top of coils).
Good luck and let me know if you need more help!

The freezer is not cold enough but i don't see a temperature control inside. Does the one in the fridge also control the freezer?

Correct. The fridge works 100% off the freezer anyways. So they installed the sensor right between the freezer and fridge if you look inside you can see it.

FRIDGE AND FREEZER IS COLD AT THE BOTTOM AND WARM AT THE TOP

It is a thermostat problem. It can be fixed but is sometimes cheaper to buy a new one.

We had a power outage and top half will not work

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp ..
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.
