Hi, I have scoured the internet and this worked for me

Fixing Code 39 Error
If your CD-ROM drive is not visible in My Computer, you may see the following error message displayed with the CD or DVD drive item in your Device Manager. (Steps to open Device Manager are discussed later in the article.)
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"
Using Device Manager
To fix this error, first try to update the driver from the Device Manager. To open Device Manager, right-click My Computer on your Desktop, and then on the Hardware tab, select the Device Manager button.
In the Device Manager window, identify the CD or DVD drive item (with Yellow exclamation mark), right-click on it and select Update Driver. Follow the screen instructions to update the device driver and restart your PC.
Using Registry Editor
If updating the driver does not resolve the problem, it indicates that there is a problem in the registry. To fix this problem, you may have to remove a few keys from the registry.
Note: Be careful while working with the registry editor because changes done to the registry using the Registry Editor are irreversible and mistakes can leave you with more problems than when you started. Therefore, it is recommended that you make a backup of the registry before proceeding with the changes.
After you have removed the registry keys listed below, you will have to reinstall all applications that you use for CD or DVD recording to make them work properly.
To fix the error by editing the registry, perform the following steps:

  1. Exit and close all applications currently running on your PC.
  2. On Start > Run type Regedit and press the Enter key.
  3. Next, navigate to the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  4. Delete any of the following registry entries if they exist under this key:
    • LowerFilters
    • LowerFilters.bak
    • UpperFilters
    • UpperFilters.bak
  5. Restart your PC and open My Computer to ensure that the CD-ROM drive is visible.
  6. Also, open the Device Manager again to ensure that the yellow exclamation mark and the error code is now gone.
  7. Restart your PC and open My Computer to ensure that the CD-ROM drive is visible.
  8. Also, open the Device Manager again to ensure that the yellow exclamation mark and the error code is now gone.

It sounds complicated but it was actually quite simple, just make sure you delete the right files.

Dvd cdrom drivers

The DVD ROM is part of the system and doesn't require drivers to "Work". I suspect if the DVD is not shown in My Computer, the drive is faulty.

Missing Matshita DVD-RAM UJ880AS

Go into my computer, if DVD driver is shown it will run the DVD-RAM driver," may mean the unit must be replaced". If on the other hand it is missing the driver, it will need to be re-installed, or you can try a systems restore to bring the computer back to an earlier time before this became a issue.

Does not recognize dvd drive

When you click Start/My Computer is the DvD drive shown as one of your devices? If not then try the steps below:
Remove the Power Cord, Remove the Battery, turn the laptop over and remove the one screw that secures the dvd drive and pull the drive out. After 20 seconds plug the DvD drive back in, and then try booting to see if it is recognized. If the drive is not recognized then you will have to remove upper and lower filters.

If you are talking about the drive won't play a dvd then that's another issue. Most times computers have a hard time playing something that was created by someone else. Try a store purchased DvD and see if it recognizes and plays it.

Helo sir, my dvd drive suddenly disappear from my computer which is a windows vista laptop

Please go to Control Panel->System->HW->Device Manager and click on Actions->Scan for new HW. It should be able to locate the DVD drive and load its drivers. Once drivers are loaded then the drive will be functional. Generally the drives are press fitted, ie, you can pull them out of the laptop casing. Then press fit again after cleaning the connectors. And then see if the drive is detected.

My dvd and cd s are not reading

Won't read or won't auto play? Go to "My Computer" and see if the drive is shown there. If it is, put a disk in. Double click on the DVD icon and see if it plays. Works? Good. If the drive icon is NOT shown under "My Computer" it could be a bad drive, a driver issue or even a virus can cause this problem. Hope this helps.

I have a toshiba satellite series laptop and the cd/dvd drive is missing in my computer.Have been on the phone with toshiba and has been back to toshiba to fix. What ever they would do over the phone and...

Try starting the unit in safe mode and see if the CD/DVD drive is their.
Make sure you don't have another device conflecting with the drive.
If the drive is seen under safe mode, you have a program conflect. Which means, the driver for the CD/DVD drive is being bumpted by another device or loading driver.
Try it and get back to me with a answer.

Dvd plays initially and then stops

Hi,
It could be the drivers for CD/DVD.
The best way to troubleshoot this is right click on computer, select manage. A new window will pop up, in that list select device manager.
Look in the list for CD/DVD drives and click on the + sign next to it, when the tree opens right click on the CD/DVD drive and select uninstall, then restart the PC.

This method will hard reset the system and force windows to load the default drivers for the CD/DVD upon restart. Hopefully this should resolve your problem.
If not please post back.

Good luck

My dvd driver is playing hide & seek with me.one minute it there, then it just disappear.what can i do to get it back

Does it also disappears in your Device manager? If it also disappears in device manager this could be a driver issue or loose dvd drive. Try to update the driver for the DVD player or try to unseat and reseat the DVD player on the laptop.
