Put a new fuel filter on it and when it stalls take the fuel line off the carburetor to check if gas is getting to the carburetor. If it is remove the sparkplug put the wire on it and ground the nut of the plug on the engine block and pull the cord and check for spark between the sparkplug gap. If no spark you might have a faulty coil, when it gets hot it has no spark.

Remove & Check Float bowl on carburettor for any foreign matter. If there is any, it could have got into jets causing engine to run lean (only run with choke) and not be able to carry load in this state. A cleanout of the carby would not hurt and check the fuel tank for any sediment as well.

Irregualar idle on econo mode

Check the governor for excessive play, as well as the carburetor for a too rich (floats) or too lean (clogged jets). A quick shot of ether or unlit propane torch near the air cleaner will tell you which one it is. If runs better, then mixture is too lean.

Running at idle speed

1) Check the "Economy Throttle" setting (or some similar verbage). Inverter types dont have to run full speed to produce full voltage.

2) Apply a load. These magically accellerate and decellerate according to load conditions.

Hope this helps,
Dolf-

Yamaha yg2800i generator will only idle

My guess is that while it was running out of gas the balnket and heater was pulling a load that the generator could not keep up with. Do you still have the manual????????
