Blades won't disengage.

If this is a riding mower, then check the cable tension around the belt. I have a craftsman and when I take the deck off for the winter, there is cable under there that controls the blades from going. You can follow the cable down to the blades it usually is under the hood. When you are on the bottom have someone control the lever and see if it tightens and loosens the belt (do not have the mower running!). A axel should move to tighten the belt to turn the blades and when you pull the lever to stop the blades the axel should move to loosen the belt. Hope this helps. Oh from there the cable could be snapped, which is a 35 to 65 dollar part. Also could be the axel itself has something faulty where it doesn't move.

Craftsman LT2000 Blade is staying engaged all the time, just did a blade mandrel replacement, where does the spring for the blade control reattach? What would make the blades be in motion all the time?...

sounds like you may not have the right mandrels making the belt to tight and it cant be left loose enough to allow the blades to quit turning.Otherwise you didnt put the belt back on correctly if it is around the tightener pully the wrong way that to will make the belt to tight

I have a craftsmant LT2000 and it won't engage the blades

check to see if a belt came off, it would go from bottom engine pulley to deck lever pulley then around blade pulleys on deck. the pulley underneath has to tighten for the belt to run blades, the pulley is either solid to lever or has a cable that moves it make sure cable did not break hope this helps Tim

I need to tighten belt for the mower deck, how is that done? it is a 2004 craftsman 17.5HP 42 " deck. Can you help me

Each of the pulleys on top of the deck should have tensioners. These tensioners are usually the type which have a bolt for you to tighten while attached to the pulley. While you tighten the bolt, the pulley puts tension on the belt.

I have a craftsman riding lawnmower and the blade engagement is not starting the blades when i lift it. It feels loose when i lift it.

Sounds like you PTO cable is broken. Part # 175067. It goes from the lever on the dash down to a deck mount and hooks to the idler pulley. When you lift the lever, it should pull the pulley and idler arm towards the rear of the deck to tighten the belt to engage the blades.

How do I tighten the deck belt on my craftsman riding lawmower

You should not have to. If the blades are not turning, either the tentioner is frozen and not able to apply tention to the belt or the belt is too large for the tentioner to be effective. Check the routing of the belt and make sure it is following the correct path.
