Here is what you do. remove one spark plug and start it up. if it runs reinstall it and remove the other plug and start it up. if it runs on one plug, but not the other, you have a set of bent valve push rods and you are actually running on one cylinder which causes that stalling and no power even though it sounds good. push rods are cheap and easy to replace, but you should leave the fine adjustment to someone who knows what they are doing, and do both sides. common B&S problem.

Stuck in gear

I'd go to the junction of the linkage and the transmission and check from there. The transmission will have a lever or some sort of protrusion connecting to the linkage. See if you can move the lever/protrusion by hand, even if you have to disconnect it from the linkage. If you can move it, try to find neutral and reattach the linkage and adjust it so it corrresponds to the indicator on the shifter. If you can't move the lever/protrusion it's internal to the transmission and you are out of luck unless you're up to cracking open the transmission.

How to get a Briffs & Stratton clutch off my lawnmower? Ive been soakin it for days!

You need a puller, the clutch is on a beveled shaft and the "binding" is needed or the clutch would work its way off. the puller needs to grab the shell of the clutch and press on the crankshaft.

Lawn tractor won't stay running if clutch is released.

There is an operator presence switch under the seat...it is more than likely faulty and must be replaced in order for the mower to run right.
