Whats the little cup thing on top of the battery in a iso-tip soldering iron and is it glued on to that black thing with wires on or soldered ?

The cup thing allows thermal transfer to black thing which when gets hot trips switch adding resisters lowering charge current to trickle not to overcharge battery. Then red led lights, and is reset by pushing white slide towards bottom base. It is not glued it is pressure fit on bottom of black thermal switch and has a little thermal grease like heat sink compound. Should come apart if you pull hard enough maybe need to use pliers.

How to solder a loose wire from a psp go sony charger


First you will need a pin out of the adapter.
Tools you will need are.
1: Solder with rosin core thin solder would be best 2: Soldering iron lower watts the better 3: Flux to clean the surface you want to solder to 4: Sponge to clean the tip of solder iron If you don't have any of thous supply's it would be cheaper to buy a new cord. Also if you don't have vary much experience soldering i would also recommend getting a new cord for the fact you can cause more damage than good.

To get the solder iron ready you need to heat it up. Once it is hot enough to melt the solder apply the solder to the tip and let is set there until you want to solder. You have to clean the tip off with a wet sponge but not soaked in water just enough to get it wet. Every time you go to solder Clean the tip off and apply fresh solder to it not a lot just enough to cover the tip when you want to solder. When you go to store the iron apply a small blob of solder to the tip to keep it from oxidizing.
Strip the wire shielding off a bit longer than the size of the contact you want to solder. Twist the wire and put flux on the surface you want to solder and tin them.
Tinning the wire is just applying a small amount of solder to the wire as to hold the strands together and make it easier to transfer the heat and solder to the contacts. Now mach the pin-out to the weirs to the contacts and put flux on the contact you want to solder to. Clean the surface by applying flux to it.The surface will be oxidized and will not let you transfer heat or solder to the surface. The key to soldering is to use the right amount of heat , solder and time you hold the iron to what your soldering to. You want to make sure you touch the wire and the contact you are soldering to as to transfer the heat to both items at the same time to make the solder flow. Put the solder wire to the tip of iron that is touching the wire and contact and not on top of the iron tip. Any time you apply heat to solder joints you want to use flux to keep them clean and free of oxidized material. After you solder check the solder joints for cracks, uneven and dull surface. You want the solder to look as shiny as possible and smooth. If it looks like it has waves or holes and cracks it means you have a cold solder joint and must reheat and apply flux with a small amount of solder to fix it .Here is a link to help you out this is not my site and full credit goes to the owner of site. How do i fix a wire that cam detached?


it will require a soldering iron and some solder. I would heat the end of the wire that came off with the soldering iron tip and as it gets hot touch the solder to it until it flows onto the wire. then put the soldering tip onto the connector that the wire came off of and add a little solder if needed and then touch the wire to the connector and when it flows together remove soldering iron and still hold the wire until it cools. the wire should be connected, if not reheat and try again.

I have a weller wp35, 35 watt iron. It came with the ST3 tip. I want to solder automotive wire, Say 14 to 20 gauge wire. Two questions: 1 is the wp35 strong/hot enough to do this type of soldering? 2...


The WP35 is strong enough and the ST3 tip will do the job. The larger tips are really only for covering larger items but when soldering it's the wire you heat, rather than the solder, and melt the solder with the wire. The tip will reach the same temperature regardless of the size and while the larger tip might heat the wire a little faster the difference would not even be noticeable.

Do you like your radio medium or well done?

You may have hooked your power wire up backwards at some point and blown the polarity protection diodes.

This requires opening the radio and using a soldering iron to remove and replace the blown diode.

You will need:

1. Soldering Iron
2. Solder
3. De-soldering braid
4. N1004 diode or better.
5. Phillips head screw driver.

Using the phillips head screw driver to take the bottom cover of the radio off being careful of the speaker wires. Using the soldering iron, heat the solder on the tabs of the speaker and pull off the wires. No need to use the de-soldering braid to remove the solder. You should do this to make it easier to handle the radio, and to avoid damage to the speaker or wires etc.

Now take the cover off the top of the radio. This will reveal the "Trace" side of the board. This is where all of the components are soldered to the board.

Now flip it to the other side where you can see all of the components and wires etc. Look at the back right of the radio by where the power socket is. Look for D23. its a big black diode. It will most likely be black and burnt. Some times it may not be.

Here is the tricky part. You need to locate the points at which this component marked D23 is soldered to the trace side of the board. Some times you can use a bright light and look at the trace side of the board while the light shines on the other side to locate the part.

Once you have located the points at which the diode is soldered too, do not de-solder it yet. Make note of which side of the diode the white band is on. This is important, putting the diode in with the wrong polarity will make the radio not work.

After you take note of the white band you may now use the de-soldering braid to remove the solder from the trace side of the board. To do this, place the braid over the solder point. put the tip of the soldering iron on the braid and press it down to the solder point. You will see it **** the solder into the braid.

Once the solder is off both solder point, flip the radio and remove the bad diode.

Put the new diode in, making sure the white band is on the same side as the original diode.

Once again flip the radio over to trace side of the board and solder the new diode in. To do this place the tip on the solder point, making sure to touch both the solder point of the board and the wire from the diode. take the solder and touch it to the solder point, not the soldering iron tip. Once enough solder is on the point you can remove the soldering tip. Don't use too much solder.

Once both points have been re-soldered, solder the speaker wires back to the speaker. Red is positive, it connects to the tab marked by the positive symbol "+". The white wire is negative. It goes to the negative symbol, "-". You can just reheat the tab, and put the end of the wire into the melted solder and remove the solder tip while holding the wire in place until it cools enough harden again.

After the speaker is re-soldered, Put the covers back on. Now be very careful hooking up the radio to power. If you hook it up backwards again it will blow the diode again. Once the power wire is connected, turn on the radio, it should work fine at this point.

Resolder the Flyback Transformer pins. It looks like a Black Hand Grenade with a red wire out of the top.You don't need to remove any old solder / Just place the tip of the iron on the connection and let it melt the existing solder and add more solder to it while still holding the tip of the iron on the connection / then remove the iron and go to the next connection.Should be about 9 pins on that transformer.Be sure to unplug the TV from the wall outlet 1st !

Tips are corroding & disappearing


That is normal for a soldering gun especially if you are using acid core solder. I do a lot of soldering with rosin core & have to change the tip about every 6-8 months. Just get a couple of new tips. Rick
