Question about Kenmore 22422 Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Model 110 purchased in late 1988 or early 1989: Will not drain and spin on any settings; wash cycles work fine on all settings. We do not have a repairman close by. We realize the washer is old, but we have never had trouble with it til now. Will be need to buy a new washer? Thank you for your help. Sue Kron Malta MT

This is a clear evidence of a broken lid switch. Power to the drive motor is routed through the lid switch during the drain/spin cycle. The machine, therefore, cannot drain and spin when the lid switch is not working. The drain pump doesn't work because it is directly coupled to the rear spline of the motor. Replace the lid switch to address the problem.

Release the console from the top of the cabinet depending on the model of your machine then pull forward and up on the console and lay it back on the hinges.

Good Day,
Your washing machine is fully automatic?
the washing cycle is normal?
if yes do the same maybe it will help you.
for the fully automatic washing machine mostly have drain pump, please check the filter of your drain pump, how? remove the cup of your drain pump like a ordinary cup, screw it clock wise or counter clock wise.
Remove drain pump filter and clean it, some hair pins, cotton buds or coins or any small item that coz of clog up.
if your washing machine dont have drain pump ,but fully automatic check the drain motor if running or not? how? open the back cover for top loader washing machine only, select spin cycle and press start to see the drain motor running? the drain motor is like a small box with small wire to pull the lever of the drain to remove water inside, if the motor running or pull the lever of the water pipe but water still inside the washing machine, remove the drain cup or cover and clean it or check if have coin or cloth inside that coz of clog or water stuck,
if the drain pump or drain motor is weak this is will cause and long time draining or totally not running the drain pump or drain motor and its cause of totally stop the cycle of washing machine in rinse time or spin time, because all fully automatic washing machine, after washing cycle the drain pump or drain motor must be on, to remove water before start the next cycle. rinse or spin cycle.

Washer leaking water after the spin cycle is finshed

Check the actual drain to see if it is clogged. Check all the drain filters. Check the drain sensor to see if is turning off too early. If there is any doubt, change the drain sensor!

The most common issue is the lid switch, if it is not making then the machine will not spin. Have you checked the switch for continuity? you can also jump across the switch to see if this is the issue. If the switch turns out good then it has to be either your control panel or the motor tansmission. If it is still washing but not spinning then my bet is with the lid switch. Remove the screws int he control nanel and flip it back the unclip the cabinet and slide it off to get to the switch

Wash cycle is fine and agitates. On spin cycle, it does not spin fast enough to get all the water out of the clothes and sometimes needs help to even start spinning. Clutch?

if it is a 110 mod made by whirlpool it would have a nuetral drain gearcase meaning it drains before it spins if the unit is draining and spinning at the same time/that will put xtra work on the clutch causing it to burn out early /you can just replace the clutch and it will last for a while but to really repair it gearcase and clutch is the way to go. if it has no nutral drain.

Washing Machine shuts off by itself during cycle

Not sure what you are saying.. if washer is off balance, it will shut off, check legs are secure to floor and unit is leveled. If washer lid isnt sealed or lid switch is bad it can shut off at spin or start cycle. Depends on unit model. The smell can be a burning belt from a heavy wet comforter or you have mildew from water not properly drained from unit.

Won't spin, makes clunking noise, drains fine

If it agitates fine , with normal noise , drains with lid closed , then the problem is probably the transmission .

Washing machinge just stopped during agitation cycle

iI have a kenmore 60 series washer model 110.81664110. It will not spin. After taking the bottom panel off I noticed what looks to be a small belt. The washer looks to be direct drive, the coupling is not broken. Can you please tell me what this "belt" is and how to change it? And could this be the problem causing it not to spin?
Thanks very much for any help I can get.
