We have Frigidaire Upright Freezer. After 6-7 days its stops cooling as its condenser gets ice around it whereas the fan is working good. We clean the ice and it again starts working/cooling.

There are a few possibilities. Freeze-ups are a result of the unit either not having sufficient airflow or the compressor running too long and too often. As you note the fan is good, chances are airflow is not the issue. There are a few quick items that you can check on:

1. Check door seals. Leaks will cause the interior to lose cooling faster and result in compressor overloading.
2. Do not overload the freezer. Too much inside the freezer will cause loss of airflow INSIDE the unit and can cause issues.
3. Avoid putting too much unfrozen material into the freezer at once. It takes a lot of work to remove all the heat from a large amount of material.
4. Avoid multiple opening and closing of the door. Upright freezers are inefficient as they lose all their cold air as soon as you open the door. Chest freezers do better if you must go into the unit often.

Lastly, undercharged refrigerant system can cause the same issue. If you don't have any of the other problems noted, have a serviceman check the refrigerant and fill the system as needed.

The freezer does not freeze anymore

Hello Rina;
My name is Peter. I am a retired field service technician.
You need to provide more information.
Upright freezers are very simple.
There is a label on the side wall witch has your model number on it.
1.) Locked in the defrost mode - If nothing is running except for the light being on then you are locked into defrost. Your defrost timer is in the back behind a metal plate. With a large flat head screw driver slowly turn the shaft clockwise one click at a time to turn the freezer on. If it turns on this component will have to be replaced.

25676024-2tl4mzw4ix4qkonroxm2e5ag-2-0.jpg Cost: $20.00

2.) Is your freezer cool? You may have a frozen drain and cooling coil. Un plug your freezer and leave the door open for 24 hours. After several hours check to see if you have water build up in the bottom of the freezer. If so, you are going to need to keep soaking up water unit there is no more.

3.) Can you hear the cooling fan running? These fans are $35-65.00.

4.) You may have a bad thermostat, bad defrost heater, or a refrigerant obstruction.

I need more information from you to determine the problem and the model number.

What size (cubic feet) is the Frigidaire Freezer Model # FFU17FC4CW0

I am going to guess that it is going to be around 17 cubic feet since that number is in the model number, at least that is how current models are labeled. Here is a link to a copy of the owners manual if you need it.
Here is another link to a page where I looked up the age of your unit and it will give you an idea where to look that up as well.

Hello Mary;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

You are locked in the defrost mode. About every 8-10 hours your freezer will go into a defrost mode for 20-30 minutes. This is where all of the components will shut down except for the light.

You have water on the floor because your condenser fan and compressor is shut down.

You did not provide a model number. Your model number is on the inside wall of your freezer near the top. So, I can only guess.

Lets take your freezer out of the defrost mode. In the lower back on the left hand side is your defrost timer (This may also be in the lower front depending on the model). Following is a picture of what a defrost timer looks like.

The time is mounted on the back of a plate and held on with two screws. The plate has a hole through it to give you access to the round knob on the left. The knob has a slot in it. With a flat head screw driver turn the knob clockwise. You will hear a click. Turn one click at a time until the freezer turns on.

The timer cost about $20.00. You can replace it yourself. Unplug the freezer. Unscrew the timer. Remove the connector on the right.

You need to replace the timer or you will have icing problems.

Send me your model number and I will tell you what the part number is.

Is compressor ruined? newbie question

Hello potofgold23 - I understand your concern and thank you for your question. May you please provide me with the model number? The serial tag is typically located behind the front grill by the air outlet or on the side of the cabinet. Other possible locations are on the front edge of the chassis base or behind the dial plate of the control panel. With this information I can better address the issue and confirm what shipping material should or should not be removed. I look forward to your response. Thank you.

What's the amperage on my Hotpoint Freezer? I want to calculate how much this unit is costing me in energy. Model number FV15CRB, serial number(?) AV 336553. Thanks!

Hi, to find out the total amperage of your unit, you should have a data plate most of the time, located inside with the compressor amperage, and both fan motor amps. If not inside, it will be outside of the unit. It will tell you the RLA and the FLA of each. It will also show the freon type and amount you use. Also, on top of your compressor is a plate that has the RLAmps on it also. This is what you need to find on this unit to help you on your calculations.

Why does the ice maker keep over filling with water and spilling over in the freezer? Model # 36350221000 Kenmore

Here is my take on it: Behind the main drive gear is a a small copper plate. Near the end of harvest cycle this plate makes contact with a probe from the brain (picture the ceiling on a bumper car ride) As that copper plate rubs the *** it energizes the water valve. A small screw at the 3 oclock position adjusts the *** for more or less water. That plate is dirty from the arcing associated with filling the valve. Carefully remove the main gear with needle nose pliers and clean that copper plate with alcohol. Hell the damn thang is broken now so what more can you do to screw it up? Here is some REPAIR PIX WITH MANUAL Shalom my friend

Frost in Kenmore frost free

Although you say the seal is fine, this is almost certainly due to air getting in. With the door closed check that there isn't a tiny gap with a strip of thin card or plastic. Of course if air is getting in then it must also be getting out somewhere else so probe all around the seal.
