If it is an automatic defrost refrigerator, the defrost water is supposed to be collected in a tray inside the bottom to be evaporated gradually. You may find that the tray is damaged or missing or out of place.

Removing a water filter from the base grill of your Amana brand refrigerator:

Removing and replacing a water filter - base grill location

Filters situated in the base grill (below the freezer compartment) of Whirlpool-built side-by-side refrigerators are relatively simple to replace. Follow these two steps:
  1. Grasp the filter's end and make a one-quarter turn to the left.
  2. Pull the filter straight out.
To replace with a new filter, repeat these two steps in the opposite order, making sure to first remove the red cap from the filter. Proceed by pushing the filter straight into the slot, and then giving it a one quarter turn to the right.
Note: Replacing this type of filter is quick - there is no need to unplug your refrigerator when replacing it. Also, this filter should be replaced every six months.

Amana Refrigerator stopped functioning.

no way!!!!! do not try to cut into the cabinet. the wires inside the cabinet will "never" fail. this "so called" repairman is wrong and needs to be sent away.
too bad you paid him to check this out but if its a company and not just a single owner then ask them for another opinion. for "free" then when they find out you have a bad main control board it will end up costing you about 300-400 bucks for a replacement.
what you need to do is call amana and ask them to see if they will recommend an authorized company give you a second opinion.
then ask if they will help with the cost of repairs. most of the time they will give you a concession for repairs.
a 2 year old unit is too new to have a major repair.
good luck with amana, as they are now owned by whirlpool, but you do have a good chance to get a free repair.

Amana bottom freezer refrigerator stopped working.

Check and clean the condenser coil in back under fiber cover and make sure you reinstall the fiber cover as it is necessary for proper air circulation . (IF) your system needs refrigerant, which I doubt, it would be a sign to get a new one.
