Question about Dryers

1 Answer

My dryer just stopped working. I have never had any trouble with it ever. Had a load in drying, opened the door got something out and closed the door again. Pushed button and nothing happened. No noises prior to this, no smell of burning, nothing. I checked the usual things like tripped breaker (not tripped), plug in securly, door closed tightly, lint screen cleaned etc. Any ideas? If I can't fix it myself is it worth it to get it fixed or would buying new one be a better use of my money? This dryer is 13-14 years old. If it is worth it to keep it I would like to because it has been a great dryer. Thanks for your input.

Check your door switch. You should hear a faint click when you open and close the door.

How do you dry clothes in this machine please

A fairly common problem! The official instructions are

Before using your dryer, wipe the dryer drum with a damp cloth to
remove dust from storing and shipping.
1. Load clothes loosely into the dryer and close the door. Do not
pack the dryer. Allow space for clothes to tumble freely.
2. Turn the Cycle Control knob to the recommended cycle for the type of load being dried. Use the Energy Preferred Automatic Setting (,) to dry most heavyweight and medium weight loads. See "Drying, Cycle, and Temperature Tips."
3. Select a temperature setting on models with a Temp/Fabric selector. The cycle descriptions include temperature setting suggestions.
4. Push the START button.

Stopping and Restarting
You can stop your dryer any time during a cycle.
To stop your dryer
Open the dryer door or turn the Cycle Control knob to OFE
NOTE: The Cycle Control knob should point to an Off area when
the dryer is not in use.
To restart your dryer
1. Close the door.
2. Select a new cycle and temperature (if desired).
3. Press START

My Estate by Whirlpool dryer stopped working on 2nd load of day. Push start button doesn't do anything. Power is fine to dryer. Is there an in-line fuse or something that would have been tripped...

Hello,

Yes indeed the dryer has a thermal fuse that not only could go out between cycles it could also mid cycle and leave ya with a partially dry load and a dead dryer, that is one of two parts that could be your trouble the other is the door switch, open the door and see if their is a little finger on the top right corner of the front panel inside of the door area, if not it has snapped of and the switch needs to be replaced,if its intact the thermal fuse is the problem
I have included links for youtube videos showing you how to replace the thermal fuse and the door switch

Dryer stopped working, sounds like timer still running

I suspect it is the thermal fuse. Seen here. You will need to determine what caused it to blow. on these machines the blower wheel is notorious for getting loose and causing the element to over heat. This makes the heating element shut down faster and takes a long time to dry the clothes. 7fc125e.jpg

The dryer door always pops open stopping the dryer... how do I make it stay shut so the clothes will get dry without having to close the door every other minute?

Try putting less of a load in dryer. The weight of the clothes riding against the door, may be the reason why it pops open.

How does may tag intelli dry work? what is the difference between less and more heat setting

there is a sensor inside the door to the right it actually "feels" the dampness of the clothes across the two strips on the sensor, if you close a wet washcloth in the door so that it hits the sensor you will see that it will show as wet and it will run longer.
if nothing in the load hits the sensor the sensor will call it dry and the load will finish, larger loads work better with sensor dry small loads not so much. if there is alot of trouble try using the timed dry cycle.

My dryer stopped working. Dryed a load of clothes

Check the door switch. A little lever sticking down through top rightof door opening. If it is not there you will need new doorswitch(sometimes the little lever breaks off). If it is there and doesnot click when you press it in you need a new door switch. if it clicksand clicks when you close the door then you have a bad thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is found by taking the back of the dryer off. The fuseis an oblong white plastic piece with 2 wires attached.

Door switch part number 3406109
Thermal fuse part number 3392519

Maytag Electric Dryer Stopped Working

Check spring tab behind door switch-if it's bent/out of adjustment, circuit will act like door is always open.

To confirm this, open door, set dryer to active setting, and hold in door switch; if it comes on, then it's either the spring tab, or the switch is malfunctioning
