Question about Teledyne Laars Laars Lite 2 Pool Heater 250,000 Btu / Natural Gas

1 Answer

I have a telstar TGS 50 spa heater that keeps shutting off pre-maturely. Even if I turn it up all the way, it will usually burn for about a minute and then shut off for a bit and then turn back on. The tub isn't even close to the temp of having it shut off. What could be causing this issue? thanks!

Without doing more troubleshooting i would have to say that it is the main board (the board with the knobs on it) Take it out and see if there is any corrosion on it.

Kerosene Heater starts up and then shuts down

David, you need a copy of the Troubleshooting Manual here:
http://www.toyotomiusa.com/OwnersManuals/Portable%20Heaters/Name%20begins%20with%20LR%20or%20LS/LR-350%20LR-450%20Troubleshooting%20manual.pdf
It sure sounds like a failure during pre-ignition. Page 5 covers both of your burn times with two different Flow charts.
A yellowish flame can mean a warped flame ring or incorrect air flow.

HLS & Service Heater LEDs

Hello.... HLS usually means hi limits.... check the connectors at the high limit switches, to make sure they're not rusting off. If they're good, and the heater fires, but turns off after a minute or two, the problem lies usually with the temperature regulator.... it's the round cover with the 4 slits in it between the inlet and outlet. It comes out counter clockwise. It holds a spring with what would be a car thermostat attached to the end of the spring. That thermostat can be malfunctioning, and it will allow the water to get too hot coming out of the heater, which trips the hi limit. A quick fix is to remove the spring with the temperature regulator, and put the cap back in place. You definitely want to get another one to replace it, because the efficiency rating of the heater will go down considerably.... but it will do the job in the meantime with no danger. (Its like running a car with the thermostat removed, it can be done, but the engine runs too cool). They cost about 50 bucks on amazon.

Hi,

No the issue is not with temperature limits its the main board (the board with the knobs on it) Take it out and see if there is any corrosion on it. If there is corrosion or any sort of rusting etc please replace the main board and the issue will get resolved.

Thanks

Have a brand new Master Temp 400K Propane with an Intellitouch and the heater shuts off at 84 degrees. Do I need to set a max temperature from the heater control panel?

If this heater has pool mode and spa mode as an option, and you need the water higher than 84 degrees, you must set it to spa mode even if it is a pool. As a regulation, these heaters come pre-set to max out at 84 degrees as a safety feature. However, in spa mode it can reach 104degrees.

Spa / hot tub does not heat

Your temperature control is way out of calibration or, it's wired wrong. Remove it and check it in a glass of water. Use an ohm meter across the heater wires. As you add hot wwater, the heater contacts should open.
