It could be a few things, completley flooded, starter pulley tight on its pivot post, the ignition unit too close to the flywheel and rubbing, or the egine has partly seized, remove the starter housing, with it off the saw does it pull freely? check the air gap between the coil and the flywheel, this should be 0.3mm, turn the flywheel by hand with the plug out, does it turn freely? if not remove the muffler and check the condition of the piston through the exhaust port.

Very difficult to pull starter rope why??

This could be a lot of things. IF the fuel mixture is not right then the wear on the engine is excessive. Take the spark plug out and see if it is easier to pull. IF it is then the compression is too high and this could be from timing. If neither or those work, the clutch might be bad.

Weed eater featherlight XT260 rope pully

Your recoil could be messed up if you cant pull the rope out or if its just too hard to pull out you could have it too tight.

I start to pull the rope and it won't budge. I took the casing off and I pull the rope and it works fine.

Check that the flywheel is not touching the ignition unit core ( too tight an air gap ) the gap should be 0.3mm, check for any loose screws or foreign objects caught in the flywheel, if this is all ok then i guess the machine has come internall damage, and will now need to come apart.

Crank rope extreemly hard to pull.

Take the spark plug out to see if there is fuel in the cylinder...drain it out if there is lubricant in the cylinder.....pull the rope a few times and then go back to normal start procedures.

How to repair a poulan pp 136 trimmer? The rope to start won't rewind.

Most likely you have a broken return spring.whitch will involve removing the blower cover and putting in a new spring, and then reloading the tensionon it.there is trick to that but its hard to have to tuirn the rope holder the oppisite direction you want it to pull the rope in ,then you feed in the rope while holding the spring loaded then tie the string in and let go...Normally 4-5 rounds will do for a good recoil..Hope it helps

How to replace starter rope and spring on the 14" poulan. What's the trick for getting the spring wound and installed back in the housing?

There should be a mount inside the casing and another one on the starter rope socket. Wind all but a foot or so of your pull rope onto the sprocket then mount the spring on the mount in the casing. Don't worry about winding the spring yet. After that attack the spring to the sprocket. There should be a notch cut in the edge of the sprocket. Lay the rope in the notch and then place the spocket back into the case. With the rope in the notch you can then start winding up the spring taking the twists out of the rope as you do it. Depending on the length of your rope you'll probably need 5 or 6 turns of the sprocket. Once you get it wound then position the notch where the pull rope exits the housing. Grap the rope handle and pull the excess rope until it is all in the sprocket or outside the case and no longer in the notch. There might be some retainers for the sprocket. I"m not that familiar with Poulan. Secure these if there are some and put the housing back onto the saw and you should be good to go.

Poulan model p3314 recoil spring won't go in correctly

You need to pretension it. Remove the pull handle, rotate the spool about 2 revolutions against the spring, rethread the cord and reinstall the handle.
