Windows Media Player or other players require CODECS to play movie.
Try using VLC player. You can download and install it from here. When prompted, save the .exe file to location you can easily access. When download is complete, double click the .exe file to begin installation. After installation, Go to <My Computer> Right Click on the DVD Drive then <Play with VLC Media Player>. Enjoy!

I guess you might see an error when trying to play DVD. Could you please clarify? If it's not something with the player itself or with your computer, I would assume it's a codec issue. Download Klite Mega Codec Pack Standard Edition, install it, restart your computer and see if it helps or not. You can download Klite Mega Codec pack Standard from HERE. Please note that you don't need to configure anything during the installation, if you know about the codecs and it's configuration, you can do it but doing so might cause another problem if you don't have much knowledge.

Let me know if you need further help.

Good Luck.
Thanks for using FixYa.

My Sanyo DWM-400 plays some DVD's and won't play others.

I bought another DVD player. I found out that all DVD's don't play on all DVD brands of players. They are cheap enough these days so I decided it wasn't worth a repair bill. The Sanyo DWM-400 plays many of my store bought DVD's and not others. I never tried a home made DVD in it so I don't know how it responds.

When you burn dvd's to play on DVD players dont burn them as Data dvd they will not play. When you burn the DVD movie try to burn it using a DVD player compatible profile and this depends on the application software you are using to burn the DVD.

Do the DVD play on your computer from DVD or even from the file on hard drive.

If it does not play from the file on hard drive then the file is corrupted on downloading or you dont have a proper dvd palying software like PowerDVD

If it plays from the software but does not play from the DVD on your computer, then it means your DVD burner softaware corrupts file information on burning. Try using a different burning software.

If it plays DVD on your computer but not on the DVD player then your DVD burning profile you selecting is not compatible with your player its possibly burning Data DVD.

Your player may only be able to play DVD-format discs. Try converting the video with Nero or WinAvi or DVDFlick to true DVD format.

DVD player wont play DVD-R's

If the DVD is not dirty/scratched it might mean it has a stupid security thing that wont let you play "un-copyrighted" dvd.
There are ways around it but I think they are quite costly.

Disk won't play in DVD player

She does not have DVD Authoring Software on her computer. Yes, she can make DVD's but they are more like DATA DVD's. They play on a computer but not on a DVD Player.

I had to buy the $300.00 Nero DVD Burning software upgrade for my OEM installed basic DVD Burning Computer Program.

The DVD Authoring Software lets you burn video on the DVD and at the end it Finalizes it and that puts an index on the DVD that can be used in a DVD.
