Unfortunately Sony does not provide a board replacement anymore, your only option is to check tv repair shops to see if they even have used working board, "long shot" even flee markets hold surprises. But! maybe a well placed add nation wide may give you the edge you are looking for.

When we turn tv on,it will click right off,and shows a stand by timer light. what could be wrong with this? My tv is 10 years old

Hi. I see this type of problem alot, and this seems to always be the problem.

The vast majority of these are due to capacitors either built itno the power supply, or on the main circuit board.
These capacitors work like a booster battery, giving a sudden charge of electricity all at once, that way it energizes the t.v..
These capacitors seem tro be failing alot, probably due to the fact that alot are manufactured in countries where quality standards aren't what they would be if they had been made here in the U.S.

Good quality capacitors should last around 30 years or so, before failure, however, alot of the are only lasting around 1/3 of that time.

Some are only lasting a couple of years, some are lasting 8-10, but all of them are not lasting to their life expectancy.

I would look at your circuit boards, and look for swollen or exploded capacitors.
If they are exploded, they will look like an exploded battery, where it splits down the side.

This is most likely the condition here.

As for repairing, good quality capacitors are not cheap, and can be the difference between getting it repaired and just buying a new t.v.

I hope this is what you were wanting to know.

Hi Baddragon,

I do not want to get in between you and Besee. however, since you are thinking of Throwing in the towel. I suggest you think of stepping back from component level repair on Circuit baords, and think about going to PC board level troubleshooting. This is easier, more expensive, and your more apt to succeed.  It is very tedious working with Surface mount components. Basically overly time consuming.

We can get the circuit boards you need from www.partstore.com

Just get the part numbers from the Circuit boards you have been soldering on.   You may want the challenge of component level repair.  You did say your staying away from surface mount components, a new circuit board solves that problem.   I hope this helps you.

Blows main fuse. Found burnt place on circuit board where connection 1 is. It's the board that's mounted to the heat sink with fan at the back. Disconnected connector 3 that goes to con 1. Now fuse does...

Chances are a power transistor has shorted. Sometimes input rectifier diodes short or electrolytic caps.

Here is a hint to troubleshoot this: Connect a 150 watt lamp in series with the hot side of the power line to the amp. This will limit the current (and voltage) and prevent the fuse from blowing. You can do a lot of troubleshooting at the much reduced voltage.

If board is burnt to carbon, this "cancer" needs to be cut out and removed as the blackened board is slightly conducive instead of an insulator. Often a circuit trace has fried the board. One must install jumpers around ones that have smoked.

No Power Problem with KV-27s15 Sony TV

Barry, remove the back cover by removing the screws with an arrow next to them. The fuse is located on the left side as viewed from the back, where the power cord connects to the circuit board.

Could this hard drive have failed plain due to long period of disuse?

Hi,

Generally drives can be left sitting for a year or more without problems but if it was bumped or jarred hard enough the heads may not be releasing from the park position, otherwise clicking sounds usually mean problems with the circuit board. If you give it a visual inspection(requires removal with a torques 5 or torques 8 bit) you can look for any signs of a burnt out circuit.

Respond back on this post if you have any further questions.

Green screen and distorted picture sound is good but no picture

It must be connected with the color circuit of your tv, a board connected to back end of the tube. Could be dust, cob web or carbon deposit shorting a transistor. Popping noise if loud enough can be attributed to high voltage circuit fault and picture tube.

Have it service by a qualified person.

Experience

So you don't have experience of tv repair. I would recommend you to get help of local repair shop or find a friend who has knowledge of electronics.
You need KV-36FS120 service manual, tools like volt meter to test voltage etc, knowledge of parts recognition, must know good solder work to replace defective parts what ever found in tv, must know and recognize high voltage area in tv etc.
what do you think now, let me know.

Since I can't see your screen, I'll guess.

If the picture shrinks away in the vertical, fast or slow, it is in the vertical control circuit.

If the whole picture shrinks in both axes simultaneously, the high voltage circuit is the culprit.
This section is responsible for producing the accelerating voltage for the beam so if it is dropping out (quite common after years of use) there will be nothing to speed the beam to the phosphor to produce light.

Turn up the intensity when the picture drops out to see if you have any trace of light.
If not, it is the latter problem.

If you can still see a horizontal line that flickers a little (from video content) then it is the first problem described.

IF the flyback (HV) transformer is still available, it will cost somewhere between $25-$100 US (many lower cost sources have disappeared) plus labor.
Depending on whether the fault was the flyback or the high power transistor that drives it, there could be additional parts needed.

Since you indicated that it operates OK for a while, it could also be something as primitive as a failed solder joint and these can be tough to find (=$$ labor).
