Question about Yamaha PSR-S500 Digital Keyboard

2 Answers

Yamaha PSR-340 keyboard is not working. When I switch on, the keyboard lights up but only shows seven black squares in the top right corner. No letters on LCD. No sound except quiet pop on speakers when I switch off.

No text appears on the LCD so I cannot do a backup. I have tried a reset using the right hand key and also using c#3-f3-G#3 as shown in the service manual, but it does nothing. I think the LCD is working because the back light works and the black squares in the top right corner come on, but nothing else.

Without the LCD text, I cannot run the diagnostics in the manual. I need to know what fault will stop text appearing on the screen.

I thought I was consulting a repair man. I need to know what fault would give these symptoms. It is not a faulty display - there is no sound.

Hi Aspro_uk,

If your Yamaha PSR-430 wont work, it might caused by recent changes on the setting or configuration. The easiest way to correct the issue is to do a factory reset. Please follow the steps below on how to reset the settings of Yamaha PSR-430.

Note: All stored data like User styles, Registration, Multipads, User songs, MIDI setting and User voices will be deleted during the process. I recommend to create a back up before executing the Factory Reset. This can be done by performing a ''Bulk Dump'' to an external MIDI storage device or by saving the user-stored data to a floppy disk via the internal disk drive of the keyboard.

1. Turn off the keyboard completely.

2. Now, press and hold down the rightmost white key (C) while turning ON the keyboard.

3. Once the power is ON, please release the key.

4. The keyboard will reinitialize to the original factory settings.

    Hi Aspro_uk,

If resetting the system does nothing, I suspected that this is a display issue (hardware problem). I'm afraid that you need to consult a repair man or have it be checked by Yamaha service center to change and replace the display.

    Hope it helps.

    Thank you for using FixYa.

A resistor or a capacitor has gone bad causing the faulty screen and the pop when shut off

Repairing Yamaha psr-12

If the power adapter is not the original adappter- check to make sure the polarity is correct- it should be marked on the keyboard near the adapter socket, and also on the adapter itself.

The keyboard should have an internal fuse- check that. Then with keyboard open, if the fuse is okay, trace the power flow from the power pack and look for broken wires, bad solder connections, stressed components like bulging capacitors, etc. It may have a burned out zener diode in the power supply regulator portion of the main circuit.

I require a user manual for a Yamaha PSR 6000 Organ to down load

Yamaha has the user's guides available as PDFs for most of their instruments on their site: http://download.yamaha.com/top/?site=usa.yamaha.com&language=en . Enter PSR-6000 or select Pianos & Keyboards > Portable Keyboards > PSR-6000 and then press Select.

The link to the manual will display below the search area.

I hope this helps.

The keyboard is showing sign of power input but the screen is not lighting and produces no sound

1. Try the volume

2. Your adapter may not be the proper voltage/amperage. If the adapter has ratings listed, make sure they match the keyboards ratings.

3. Try it with the headphones. If they work and the speakers don't, you've narrowed down your problem. There may be some damage or wiring problem within where the board meets the speakers, and/or before processing.

4. Try it with batteries. If that works, you need a new adapter.

I don't have Cubase myself but there must be a track setting that allows you to monitor what you are playing live. Also make sure your keyboard shows up as the midi controller on the software. Your receive channel has to match the send channel of the keyboard. Make sure that synthA or synthB shows up as the sound source (audio out). XFi Midiport is your midi in but since Cubase already sees your keyboard your problem is an audio one not a midi one. Hope this helps.
