If this thread is still alive, I need a hard drive solution as well to keep some of these units alive as the hard drives age and start to fail.

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

Restore win 7 from system image on toshiba portage m200

This should apply to other brands and models...
the original problem: bad hard disk, need to restore from win 7 image disks however The portage m200 lacks an optical drive and cannot be booted from usb (only options are to boot from LAN or from a specially created SD card).

you will need a second pc that can boot from an on board or peripheral optical drive. Swap the second pc's hard drive for the one that you are restoring. Now boot the second pc from the restore disk and follow the onscreen instructions. Once completed the pc will try to reboot and you will get an error about how windows couldn't repair start-up. Now power down and swap the hard drive back to the portage. You should now be up and running, much easier than trying to create a boot-able sd image or boot from a PXE server.

I need windows xp operating system

Windows XP Is no longer supported you might be able to find a torrent for an ISO image but I would think so. your best bet is to try and find someone who has a copy and then run XP as a virtual machine

Swan dvr wont record

It sounds like a problem that might be an easy fix. Since the system CCA board doesn't see the HDD. Can you view any previously recorded images? How are the connections to the drive? Bad IDE ribbon cable (yes do do fault), power to the HDD and how about the drive? Some of my DVRs require the manufacturer drive, not a simple off the shelf (i.e. Lanex or Verint).
Try that and reply back. :)

Need user manual for a Lanex/Verint netDVR. Also need the procedure to reset the netDvr to its default status. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Let me guess - you aquired a netDVR with no hard drive and put one in and it doesn't work. The hard drives are encoded with some data that is specific to Lanex, so you have to buy the hard drive from them at a large markup. This is my only pet peave with Lanex as otherwise they are one of the best on the market. Do you have the application to talk to the netDVR? If you do then the default password is 'admin'. this should let you in to make changes to the configuration.

SD as hard drive--windows XP download

An SD card isn't usually used as Hard Drives as they don't contain enough space. Although they are getting bigger and bigger capacities all the time!

I think what your after is booting your computer off the SD card which will have Windows on it? Some computers can boot straight from the SD card, my old laptop used too!

What needs to happen is that you need to go into your BIOS settings (which are your motherboard settings) and in ther you can set boot sequence, so by default most are set to Hard Drive first. The computer looks there first for the operating System. So you need to tell your Motherboard to boot from your SD card 1st. Now your motherboard needs to be able to support this feature, my guess is that it probably wont.

Go into the BIOS and find the boot sequence and scroll through the available options, if SD is in there, set it. If not your motherboard wont support booting from SD.
