My belt is burning do I need anew belt and just align and clean brush. Motor sounds ok

Belts start burning because they've become too worn and loose to keep a good grip on the brush and motor shaft. You do need a new one. When replacing, ensure it's in the correct position by rotating the brush a few times. Make sure you've got the correct amount of tension on it. Too loose and the belt will slip and burn out again. Too tight may cause breakage as well as excessive stress on the motor.
It's often best to allow even a simple fix to be done by a service tech.

How to change a belt on a shark v15z vac. tks john t

John -

Your vacuum doesn't have a belt - only vacuums with rotating brushes use drive belts.

What problem are you having - why do you think you need to change the belt?

No suction

Are you saying that the motor runs but there is no brush rotation ?

If yes then firstly switch machine on then when you pull handle back as if to vacuum the carpet the clutch drive dial must turn to (drive, start, on,) position if it is stuck on (park, off. Stop, p,) position rotate it to drive etc as you pull handle back providing the clutch & both drive belts are ok the brush will spin.
The clutch drive dial knob is situated looking from the front of machine lower left hand side approx 50mm or 2” in diameter.

Please do this test & let me know results

Did you check the brush roll when you changed the belt? The smell of rubber would inducate a belt slipping. So if the brush roll (part #61308-2)isn't turning, the belt would get hot and would be slipping. If the motor sounds real loud, then you could have a bad motor(part #60775-4).
