Try to shoot a picture and download to pC. If it is ok then your lcd is bad. You need to replace it.

Sounds like your screen has died. Check with an authorized Nikon dealer.

My picures show lines after the shots. My camera is Nikkon S210

Hello

Thank you for using
FixYa for your problem

Always check the batteries first but if is it still giving the same fault, your camera is faulty. It should be taken to an authorized repair centre for a repair estimate. Very few digital cameras have any user-serviceable parts.

Please rate our solutions and if you still have problems please call back for more ideas to help you

Wont take a picture unless I turn off the flash

Here are some simple things to try first for a camera that won't take a picture when the shutter button is pressed, or with an inoperative flash. They won't work for every case, but they're worth a try:

LCD Display

As far as I am aware, the 400D doesn't have a live preview mode.

What you are describing is perfectly normal and is how 99% of digital SLR cameras behave.

Are you sure it used to do this?

Distortion

The problem you are having is related to a bad CCD. The CCD is the part of the camera that actually captures and stores the image to your card.
When the CCD goes bad, you get a distorted photo, which will also save the way you see it on the LCD.
Right now, I don't believe Canon has a replacement CCD for sale, however I have heard that you can send your camera to Canon and you might get a replacement or repair under a just-outdated recall.

Can't see new pics

Check that you are still taking picures by connecting to the computer or looking at the memory card elsewhere[through a card reader for example. Want to establish with this a CCD problem or a Firmware problem. Come back

My camera wont take the picture and screen is black

Be sure to fully charge your batteries if rechargeable - at least 14 hours. Check that your card door is closed good - it's common for the latch to break. There's a switch at the top of the door that has to close before it'll turn on.
