Installed new pump tank pressure is 25 lb in tank. pump will stay at pressure when water is turned off coming into house . when i open valve the prssure drops and pump cycles every 5 min.

How does a home well water system work?


Deep well.
Pressure valve located on front of above-ground-storage-tank will turn pump on-off depending on amount of water pressure inside tank.
When water is consumed inside home, the pressure valve responds to the lower pressure and closes electrical contacts... sending electricity to water well pump located deep underground.
The pump turns on and lifts water through a pipe into the above ground storage tank.
When the tank is full of water, the pressure valve senses the higher pressure and turns off electricity going to pump
Pump shuts off.
There is a one-way check valve on the water line going down to pump, and this keeps water from flowing back down into well.
The above ground tank maintains water pressure for the house.
When pressure is reduced by taking a shower, the pressure valve turns pump on again, and cycle repeats.

I have a new 1 hp utiltech pump and a new. Precharged tank with 34 psi in it now. When i prime the pump the pressure goes right to 25 psi and i can hear some water moving . When i open the shut off valve...


The 34 psi of the pressure tank sounds high, but it depends on what the cut-in pressure is set at in the pump pressure switch. Typically the pressure switch is for 20-40 psi or 30-50 psi. To establish what the pre-charge of tank should be , you need to establish what the pressure switch setting are (i.e 20 - 40 psi , etc.) Run the water and watch the pressure gauge and note at what pressure the pump comes on. The pressure tank needs to be pre charged 2 -4 psi below that cut-in pressure. So if the cut-in pressure is say 30 psi, then the tank needs to be pre charged to 28 psi.
To pre charge the pressure tank, turn the pump off. Drain the pressure tank of water to relieve all pressure in the tank. Then check the pressure of the tank at the air valve. Set the pressure to 2 psi below what the cut-in pressure is.
If you adjust the pressure switch, say from 20-40 to 30-50, you will need to go through the procedure of re adjusting the pressure in the tank. I hope this helps....

PRIME A GOULD PUMP


whats your question how to prime the pump? if so at the bottom is a 3/4 inch plug screwed into it, or at top, once the pump is hooked up to the lines turn off the power, and unscrew the prime plug fill with water, then screw in tight DO NOT USE THREAD SEALANT THEN THROW THE POWER TO THE PUMP, of course house supply valve must be off 3/4 turn valve off until the line is primed then open the supply line to house slowly to supply the water to all the lines, NOTE WHEN YOU FIRST INSTALL A NEW PUMP, HAS TO BE PRIMED, HAVE TO HAVE SUPPLY LINES FROM WELL TO HOUSE CLOSED TO PRESSURE THE TANK AND TO FILL THE LINES.

My water supply pump to house works but does not pump water from tank to house


What type of pump is it? Is it a shallow well pump or submersible
pump? Is the pump connected to a pressure tank? How have you confirmed that the pump is working properly? Is there a drain valve, and is there water pressure from the drain valve when it is opened? If the pressure tank is of the pre-charged type, is it working properly? Is there water coming out of the air valve? Are there any shut-off valves in the system which may have been turned off, preventing water flow?

My new water pump i installed just like the instructions said won't hold pressure, I have a new foot valve and a flow check valve in the suction line from the well?


Just to confirm that the pressure tank was pre-charged with the tank emptied of water. If water comes out of the air valve, then the bladder is ruptured, and the tank needs to be replaced.

High Electric Bill due to Well Pump Cycling On Frequently


The short run time of the pump indicates very litttle water volume is needed to reach to turn off pressure. To me this indicates you may have two problems. There is a leak somewhere in the system that allows the pressure to drop to the turn on point. Any check valve will fail eventually so barring any other leak that is your problem. I would think only one check valve is needed in the system so the second one may have been added to crutch the first one leaking. Normally the one check valve is placed on the pump before it is attached to the well pipe. The pump must be removed from the well to accomplish the replacement.

The second problem has something to do with the storage tank. If the pumps runs whenever you open a faucet or in your short cycle situation, then your tank is way too small or it is "water logged". Assuming it has been sized correctly, which means at least 20 gallon capacity then air needs to be added to the tank which will compress when the pump adds water until the high pressure setting is reached. When water is release to the house the air will expand until the low pressure setting is reached and the cycle repeats. The point here is that a significant quanity of water flows between pump cycles.

If your tank was installed in perhaps the last 20 years then it is likely a bladder type whitch contains the water so it never comes in contact with the steel tank, preventing internal corrosion and leaching of metals into the water. If the bladder has failed then the formally isolated air will have been absorbed by the water and your short cycling condition develops. That is what happens in non bladder tanks so air needs to be added periodically. I think all bladder tanks have a car tire like valve stem attached to the tank so that the opperating pressure can be set by the manufacture. The valve stem rairly leaks so bladder failure causes the loss of the air in the tank. There should be a label on the tank specifying the factory pressure. Use a tire gauge to test for the proper pressure. Add air if it is below setting.

If in the past your system can build-up pressure up to 40 psi even if the supply valve is open and water is being used in your house, then your pump impeller maybe already worn out that's why its pumping capacity was reduced.

Where is thermostat on my 2005 chevy classic


Thermostat Removal & Installation 2.2L Engine 2004-2005 To Remove:
  1. Drain the cooling system. chevy_cav_02-04_tstat.gif
  2. Remove the thermostat housing-to-water pump feed pipe bolts. chevy_cav_02-04_feedpipe.gif
  3. Remove the water pump feed pipe from the thermostat housing .
  4. Remove the thermostat from the housing.
To Install:
  1. Install the thermostat on the housing.
  2. Install the water pump feed pipe on the thermostat housing with the mounting bolts. Tighten 89 in-lb (10 Nm).
  3. Fill the cooling system.
2006-2007 To Remove:
  1. Drain the cooling system.
  2. Disconnect the radiator outlet hose from the surge tank and thermostat housing cover. Thermostat & cover gm-03-39-3601.gif
  3. Remove the mounting bolts and remove the thermostat housing cover.
  4. Remove the thermostat from the housing. Discard the O-ring.
To Install:
  1. Using a new O-ring, install the thermostat on the housing.
  2. Install the thermostat housing cover with the mounting bolts. Tighten 89 in-lb (10 Nm).
  3. Connect the radiator outlet hose to the surge tank and thermostat housing cover.
  4. Fill the cooling system.
3.5L Engine (LZ4) W/ Variable Valve Timing & 3.9L Engine To Remove:
  1. Drain the cooling system.
  2. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct.
  3. Disconnect the radiator outlet hose from the thermostat housing. Thermostat 3.9L gm-03-00-3054.gif
  4. Remove the mounting bolt/stud and remove the thermostat housing.
  5. Remove the thermostat from the engine.
  6. Clean the sealing surfaces.
To Install:
  1. Using a new gasket, install the thermostat on the engine.

  3. Connect the radiator outlet hose to the thermostat housing.
  4. Install the air cleaner outlet duct.
  5. Fill the cooling system.
  6. Check the cooling system for leaks.

My pump, used to pressurise the water in the house, keeps coming on every 2 mins approx even though there is no water being used in my system. I have checked for leaks and am suspicous that the pressure...


If you have valves at the pre tank you can run it till it shuts down then close the inlet valve and the outlet valve. Wait and see if it goes on again. If so you have a problem in the pressure tank or the switch mech. If not open the outlet valve and wait. If it starts you have a leak somewhere in the house. If not open the intake valve and see what happens. If it kicks on then you have a problem with you check od backflow valve. If this is a shallow well pump it could be in the supply line also.
