Maytag Washer LAT8420AAW Dead!

I killed my washer today. I decided it was time to clean underneath the washer, WHILE IT WAS RUNNING!, and got the fuzzy duster caught in the belt. It stopped spinning and blew the breaker. I fixed the breaker and turned the dial to the rinse cycle and the washer partially filled, stopped and now it is dead. The breaker is on, there is power to the plug, the belts will hand turn and do rotate the tub and agitator. There is no hum or any indication that it is getting power. The fuse is a white ceramic looking one, so I can't tell if it is still good. Please help me. Linda

when you say the drum wont spin even manually. Do you mean the drum is too stiff to turn by hand? If so the bearings may have seized up solid. If the drum is free to turn by hand, the pump may be blocked, or burned out & not allowing the water out. If so the circiut wont allow the machine to spin. If thats the case, unblock or replace the pump

Your door lid has a switch that makes these functions work.First open the lid and look at the right side of it.Does it have a arm on it?If it does follow the direction where it is going to hit and now listn closely while your lifting the door up & down at this contact  can you hear it click? If its not clicking  or the arm is broken  off the lid replace  the lid switch/or the broken lid switch arm.

SOURCE: frigidaire front load washer won't spin, belt looks good, makes noise

Don't have much experience on Frigidaire. Is the motor a brush type, capacitor type or one of those new DC types? If it's got brushes and they are ok, then I would say your armature is up the creek. If it's a capacitor type (unlikely) then the capacitor is most likely duff. If it's the new DC type it could be a lot of things, most likely the module which breaksdown and passes an AC component in the motor supply which make the motor tremble but not rotate

SOURCE: Kitchenaid Washer Model #KAWS700JQ4

Washer has a motor coupler linking motor to transmission. If this motor coupler is broken or has rounded out where it engages the motor and/or transmission gear it will only fill and drain. You can view this coupler by leaning washer back against the wall & looking underneath with a flashlight. There may be a sound dampener panel on the bottom that you have to remove to see it. It is two pieces of white plastic with a rubber grommet in the middle.

Why does washer stop agitating after few minutes?

Check for something caught in the pump or under agitator.
Check that the belt underneath is free running.
This fault is usually associated with excessive current & the motor going out on the auto reset overload.
Could be motor trouble, starting capacitor (If fitted) or the timer.

Sock stuck under agitator

Good Afternoon Haley - Based on the model number posted above, it shows that you are speaking about a front load washer. Is that correct? If so, then generally speaking front load washers do not have an agitator. If a sock is caught underneath it is typically because it got caught in between the door and drum because the seal is either damaged or off the track. If you have a top load washer, you may try to twist the agitator and then pull it out to remove it, as you would for maintenance cleaning.

Machine not spinning dry

Top-loading washing machine has an outer tub that fills with water and sits stationary as well as an inner tub with holes in it. The inner tub has an agitator that attaches to the drive shaft. A drive belt turns the drive shaft, causing the agitator to move back and forth. Broken seals at the bottom of the agitator, or a broken belt, may cause the agitator to perform inefficiently and leave your clothes dirty

In order to properly wash clothes and prepare them for drying, a washer must agitate or spin the load. This helps wring excess water out of the clothing. If your washer has suddenly stopped spinning properly, you will notice that your clothes will be sopping wet when the washer is done. Typically, there is a simple reason for this problem that you can fix without calling in a professiona

1 Check the lid switch. You will notice on the lip of the lid there is a small stem that hangs down. This fits into a hole on the top of the washer housing and tells the washer the lid is closed and it is safe to spin the load. If the switch is faulty or has been blocked, the washer will not agitate or spin.

2 Clean out the switch receptacle. Use a multipurpose cleaner and a sponge (not a paper towel, it can shred and get caught in the switch receptacle.) Thoroughly clean the area around the switch and the receptacle.

3 Test the washer. Close the lid, allow the washer to fill with an inch of water, and move the selector to the spin cycle. Pull out on the selector. If it does not spin, stop the cycle (push the selector in) and turn the washing machine off. This means there could be three problems with the washer: the switch might be broken, something might be caught in the agitator, or the motor for the agitator may be burned out.

4 Check underneath the agitator. Small items such as underwear, panty hose or bra straps can become caught underneath the agitator and keep it from moving. Run your hand underneath this area and see if you feel anything. If you do, unwrap the item and test the washer again. If it still does not work, move to Step 5.

5 Contact a repair person. If the washer still will not agitate or spin, it will need to either have the switch replaced or the motor replaced. Contact a certified appliance repair person to have the machine inspected. If it is still under warranty, the repair person's visit should be covered.

However if its only the agitator arm, then

Instructions to Remove/replace the Agitator

1 Unplug the washer.

2 Slide a putty knife under each side of the washing machine top to release the springs holding the top in place. Lift up the top on its hinges.

3 Pull the tub clips from the inner tub using a pair of pliers.

4 Pull up on the agitator top to expose the nut holding it in place. Remove the nut using a socket wrench. Lift up on the agitator to remove it from the machine.

5 Turn the agitator upside down and remove the seals from the bottom. Replace them with a new set of seals. If the agitator is cracked, replace it.

6 Reassemble the washer.

Removing the Belt

7 Unplug the washer from the wall outlet.

8 Pull out on the bottom panel on the front of the machine. Look underneath to locate the drive belt.

9 Pull on the drive belt at the washer tub to remove it. Push down on the idler pulley near the motor to remove the belt from the machine. Route the new belt around the pulleys in the same way as before.

10 Reassemble the machine, plug it in and test.

Smoke rubber smell, machine won't work now or drain

This could be a few things. THe burnt rubber smell is from the belt that is underneath that goes around the motor, transmission and the pump. The best way to find out what the problem is, you need to get the water out of the machine, then lean the washer backwards. once you can see underneath, take the belt off and the try to spin each pulley you see. The big one in the center is the transmission, it will be a little harder to turn. If there is only one big belt, the smaller pulley up front on the left is the motor, and the pulley in the back right is the pump. If there are two belts then then pump will be in the front right. check the pump first, if something has got caught in it and it can't spin freely, it wil overload the motor causing the washer to shut off.

I keep getting an Lr on my washer and it won't unlock what does that mean

I had this problem, and according to the repair guy today, it is the control board. Unfortunately the part is around $200. I had a few other things wrong with mine (and it is only 5 1/2 yrs old), and the total parts were going to cost $550. I ended up going out today and buying another washer.....not a maytag. BTW, if you have clothes stuck in the washer, there is an emergency release cord underneath the detergent dispenser. You will need to remove the dispenser and pull it out....it is a neon green color so it is easy to spot. Good luck.

Noisy dryer after cleaning lint

There is something caught up in the blower wheel. You will need to disassemble the dryer from the front to be able to get to the blower wheel housing to clear what ever you have jammed there and remove it. Everything is done through the front.

My office has a Hotpoint refrigerator model HTS22GBPARWW Serial TF305646. Something STINKS! We have cleaned it out thoroughly several times and pulled it out from the wall. We suspect a mouse has died...

If it's an auto defrost, there is a drain pain underneath accessible from the rear behind the cardboard cover. They are difficult to remove but you can clean it some with it in and rinse it with water and bleach mix to kill odors. Look around while the cover is off for other sources of the smell. I have seen mice get caught in the fan.

My Maytag front load washer has a string odor when you open the door. What causes this and how do I fix it?

Most front load washers have an issue like this. Try cleaning the seal around the door with a cleaner that will kill mold and mildew. If that doesn't work, try running an empty cycle or a whites load with bleach added. There was also a known problem with the drain trap I believe it was -- a local appliance parts house could probably give you more details on it.

My maytag washer was makeing noise and we moveved it out and found a black plastic cap that was in two and fluid leak.

The plastic cap goes underneath the washer on the end of the transmission shaft below the belt pulley.
You may have a transmission oil leak causing the noise.
This machine is worth repairing.
It is a better machine than any brand made today.
