Please state EXACTLY what motherboard it is then i can give you precise instructions. You need to go into the bios setup and choose boot priority, then select the cdrom as first device changing the primary drive to cd wont work

Toshiba Satellite L355D-S7815 re-soldered cmos battery onto mother board and re-set the bios, now I have the f2 and f12 option available, tried to boot cd/dvd drive with windows 8 disk and it will not

Go into the BIOS setting abd check it the BIOS detects the hard disk and CD/DVD drive.
If it detects these drives then go to the boot device order and select the CD as the first boot device then the hard disk as the 2nd boot device.

Boots only to bios settings, then blank screen after save and exit. will not take a cd boot.

Hello, since it can boot to bios setting, then have you try configuring the boot order, the cd drive should come first, after that your hard disc, if the hard drive comes before the cd rom then it would not recognise it. Change the settings and Save this settings, then try to boot from the cd again, if this does not work then i am rest assured that your hard drive has a problem, and you need to find solution to it by getting a new one. cheers Regards

CANT GET COMPUTER TO START ASKS TO PRESS DEL TO RUN SET UP THEN PRESS TAB TO DISPLAY BIOS POST MESSAGE

Hi:
Not sure what sort of process got you to where you are needing this, but you might try reseting your motherboard by clearing the CMOS , by pulling the battery. If that doesn't help, have your power supply checked.

ASUS P5S800-VM Motherboard configuration

Serial ATA drives are pretty much plug and play. You just need to install them and set them up as a primary drive in your bios settings. The IDE devices can be connected on the same ribbon cable but need to have jumpers set on the back to determine which device is primary or slave. If the IDE devices are on different ribbon cables then most likely the hard drive jumper setting should be set to master or master (single drive). The CD-ROM drive jumper on master. BIOS should detect all drives You also need to assign the boot order in BIOS. CD-ROM should be the first boot device to load and install the new OS onto the primary hard drive.

BIOS doesn't find SATA HDD

Hi fallacy,

If you have the system disks and you can boot from CD, I would just follow the prompts to reload the operating system. If the computer cannot see the CD or HardDrive you need to reset the BIOS setting to factory default settings and that should restore the drives to be used. Note: Hard Drive should be Primary Master and CD-Rom, (not DVD-Rom if you have one) should be Secondary Master. If you have a DVD Rom drive I recommend unplugging both power and data cords from it and making sure the CD-ROM is set to Secondary Master, NOT Secondary Slave.

This should allow you to boot to a CD and reload the operating system. Unfortunately your files are lost.

If you have you primary HDD set on Cable select, and the secondary HDD is set on anything other then Cable select (with the jumper settings on the back of the HDD) then there will be an error.. Also, if you primary is set to master/slave and the same for the secondary, it will cause problems.

Another thought, if one of your drives is SATA and the other IDE, if the IDE is set to master, there may be an issue as SATA HDD's will try to post as the master drive

Check the jumper settings on the back of the drive, if this is the primary HD, set it to master, if secondary, set it to slave, if secondary still does not recognize, switch the ide cable so that the two drives are not on the same one.

1st and 2d eide conector on mobo

Hi, Does not really matter whether slave via jumper or cable select on the secondary IDE. Your mb will boot to whatever HD you set it at in the BIOS/CMOS as the first boot device. The 3rd drive will be recognized as secondary whatever and if your CMOS/BIOS is set right it will boot from the primary master on IDE1. Good luck and kind regards.

Install CD won't boot from cdrom drive

Maybe you need to check the boot process in the BIOS and make sure that it tries to start from the CD-ROM and not the hard drive. Usually, to get to the BIOS (I don't know how much of a tech that you are), on start up, hit the "del" key when you turn it on to get to it. Once in BIOS, hit the right arrow button to goto "Boot" and move down to "Boot Priority Device" and make sure that it goes to your CD-Rom first and then your hard drive. Let me know if you have any further questions.
