We need to find all the people that have bad lite-engines (AKA Optic Block Engines) because I am seeing a trend throughout the internet and it is more than just an isolated incident. It's starting to affect a large number of KDF-E42A10 and KDF- E50A10 Televisions from Sony. If anyone has a way to gather all of the people that own these TV's, we would have a great chance to force Sony into fixing them. If we stand together we have the strength to achieve this! If we do nothing, Sony wins. Lets face it Sony has lost it edge on being the best in electronics. Any suggestions on how to gather everyone together would be a great help?

I have the same tv. A yellow hue about the size of a baseball appeared in the center of the screen about a month ago and now it's spread to almost the whole screen.

  • cmgspreen Sep 02, 2008

I also have a KDF-E42A10 which I purchased in 2006. In the last few weeks I have noticed a yellowish vertical column in the middle of the screen. I thought it just needed a new bulb, so I replaced it, but there was no change to the yellow column. However, it now appears to be a yellow oval at the bottom center of the screen. My guess is that it is not an area with extra yellow, rather an area that is missing some blue (since yellow is what you get when you remove blue light from white light).

Regarding the expensive fix: how expensive is "expensive"? If it's more than a few hundred bucks I might as well buy a new (non-Sony) one.

I've got the same problem with my KDF-E42A10. The yellow area is in the middle of the screen, but continues to grow.

Sony support says they know of no problems with this model. They recommend that I have it serviced at an authorized Sony repair facility.

I also have a yellow haze in the center of the screen of my KDF-E42A10 started to notice it a couple weeks ago. Bought the set August 06, extended warranty expired 2 months ago. I found a couple web pages of interest regarding the problem. - information on the problem. - company that claims to sell rebuilt light engines for $325.00.

I have this problem with my KDF-E42A10. About a 12 inch circle in the center of the picture that is yellow around the edges, When the set is turned off, the circle turns blue while the lamp turns off. It seems to be getting more noticeable.

I have a yellow tint in the middle third of the screen. It started about 3 days ago and it getting worst. I have had my tv for about 2 years.

  • Anonymous Dec 10, 2008

Purchased the 42" two years ago. I have the yellow glow in the middle of the screen- it is getting stronger with time.

  • Anonymous Dec 17, 2008

I also have this same yellow hue in the center of my screen, came upon this site in researching the problem and possible fix, evidently there is none at a reasonable price, might as well buy a new one. Sony should be aware of the problems with their products

  • howard math Dec 24, 2008

Seems like im one of many that has this problem on my 42". Not happy! I will join in any class action suit. I called Sony tech support and they acted like they had never heard of this before. they offered to send out one of their techs to diag. the problem. I refused to let this happen. Now I find out they already knew. Law suit here we go.

I have the same problem.  Talked with Sony today and they said too bad its out of warranty.  My tech told me it would cost over $1000 to repair a television that is only 2.5 years old.  Its junk now.  I may as well buy a new lcd television for that kind of money.  Sony didn't care.

My Sony 42" has same yellow screen problem. Time to see my lawyer.

  • TLC31 Jan 09, 2009

Wow this is a big problem! I thought I was the only one. Sony should have a call back, this is a very expensive TV and i'm sure none of us will EVER purchase another Sony TV again. Big loss for Sony! Is there a class action law suit?

  • geomal23 Jan 12, 2009

I have the same problem. Yellow hue in the center three times the size of a LEMON. Will the replacement parts last any longer?

  • equlizer Jan 21, 2009

My yellowish hue is on the very top all the way across the tv and about 1" down.

  • Anonymous Jan 23, 2009

I have a yellow spot about the size of a basketball right in the middle of the screen. My KDF-E42A10 had been nothing but a real headache. I have had to replace the bulb twice now and it's less than 2 years old. There will never be another Sony product in my house.

  • San Michele Mar 01, 2009

My screen began to turn yellow after replacing the bulb. It started at the edges and now the entire screen has a yellow hue.

  • lefevrm Mar 02, 2009

I too have a large yellow area in the center of my screen. We first noticed it 3 days ag) and is seemingly getting worse by the hour. Replaced the lamp about a month ago. I'll keep the TV in the basement in case a class action suit moves forward. In the meantime, I'll start looking for a larger (non-Sony) LCD.

  • zman70 Mar 07, 2009

Same problem yellow in the center of the screen vertically about 10 inches wide. The TV is 3 years old and I just replaced the bulb about 90 days ago

  • tmickel Mar 23, 2009

Same problem -- and it also occurred right after changing the bulb.

  • ArmyDoc Apr 11, 2009

Same problem as others described. I guess I'm fortunate that I got a good 3.5 yrs of use from mine. This is the 3rd of 4 Sony products I've owned. All of them are defective in some way. Sony customer service has not been very helpful with any of them. I gave up and bought a new (non-Sony) laptop. Now it looks like I'll have to buy a new (non-Sony) television. I'll never buy Sony again.

  • sdecourcy Apr 26, 2009

I have the tellow hue as well, starting from the bottom centre and moving up the screen.

Hello sailingnut,
You have a bad lite-engine. The only way to fix this is to replace the engine. This engine is very expensive. Not only is it expensive, it will take a experienced service tech to install it.

Part # A-1123-071-A
Average Price $650

Sorry for the bad news buddy

Best regards

Hi everybody, no solution here. Just having the same problem with my KDF-E42A10, right in the middle of the screen. Bought the set about 2 years ago. Was doing research on the web to see if it was an isolated case but it looks like a pattern to me.

Class action suit on the 50's and 60's. Optic Block is defective and is causing a big ruckous everywhere. Get with Sony and demand a replacement or the suit will encompass the smaller sets as well. I too am having an issue with my 42 as weel as the same issue with my 60. Last Sony product I will ever buy. They told me that they don't make the 60 anymore but I could buy their 52 at a discounted price; ha. Going as far away from Sony as possible after this fallout! Good luck!

What is the perfect amount of red, blue, and yellow hue for the screen

that's got t o do with personnel preference and room lighting , but as a general rule adjust color hue's till the edges of a white color object on screen has just lost its primary color edge

the older projection TV's actually have voltage numbers for the service tech to adjust them too , but im not remembering seeing any in the LCD manuals

My Mitsubishi wd-62531 has a yellow hue over half of the screen. What do i need to do to fix it?

Not a cleaning issue.

The lamp shines into a OPTICAL LIGHT ENGINE, which has a series of lens and baffles---blue is the first part of the engine to get that light and heat---in your case the blue area is damaged from the heat----minus blue equals yellow.

The entire engine would have to be replaced--not a cheap part--Google the model number with "light engine" to get an idea of cost.

May be time to either use it as is or ?

It went this greenish yellow hue

Try resetting the monitor to defaults if possible. If you still have the greenish yellow hue then at that point, try another known working monitor on the computer, if the hue goes away then you know the original monitor is bad, if you still have the greenish yellow hue then you know the video card is bad.

1)Please verify your model # from back of set......

you should see gray, not yellow hue

3)Remove lower front grill cover & access panel.....locate the
