Microsoft Xbox have some common problem like red lights, E74 and Disc Read Error. Microsoft is providing extended warranty for red lights problem, Means you will have to spend some money in order to get this problem repaired from Microsoft also you will have to wait for 3-4 weeks to get your Xbox back. There are many reasons disc read error can occur in your Xbox like your disc might not be clean, laser might also be dirty and many more common problem. I would suggest you to first clean out the disc, you are using. If that don't solve the problem you can also take the help of DIY guide available at Internet. Wont play game disc

Hi,

What disc are you putting in?

My xbox 360 will not read the disks i put into it. it is like it isn't reading that there is a disk in in the tray. it says open tray then close tray over and over again. it wont spin the disk to read it.

Inspect and clean your disc Take a close look at the bottom side of your game, movie, or music disc (the side without a label or image). Are there scratches? Excessive scratches or smudges can prevent your console from reading the disc. Clean your disc Hold the disc by the edges without touching the top or bottom surfaces. Using a soft, clean, slightly damp cloth, lightly wipe from the center of the disc outward.

· Note Use ONLY water to clean the disc.

· Once the disc is clean, load the disc into your console and see if the disc plays.

My 360 does not read disc, everytime i place disc in ,it says open tray

I fixed this for me today. I opened the tray, and took the disk out. Just inside in the middle there is a small disk that rotates. I just rotated it a little with my finger to get it moving. Once it started spinning the disk tray closed on its own. I then put a disk in and it started reading it. I guess the piece that moves the disk got stiff and just needed some assistance. Hope this helps.

It wont read my disc it sits there and doesnt attempt to read any disc it says open tray how can i fix this?

Ahhhhhh This is a fun one! Ok here is the first thing you should do. Put a disk in the tray and keep in mind the position it is facing. Close the tray and wait for your system to say open tray now open the tray and examine the disc. Let me know if it is in the same position and we'll go from there!

Xbox 360 disk tray wont stay shut

My 360 is/was having a similar problem...my 360 would say "reading disc" then "open tray". Well since my system is only about 8 months old...I opted to send it in for repair. Its under warranty. My system is in route to be fixed as we speak. I would advise you to get yours registered too.
