Hi,

Your issue is more likely a communication problem between the printer and computer. Here are some basic steps that we can try to resolve the issue.
-we can try to turn off the computer and the printer, try to replug the printer or better yet try a different USB port if the printer is using USB. Then try to reprint your file again.
-try printing different file as well.
-try another program for example if your using ms word, try using wordpad or open office programs.
-If still the same try another USB cable and try to reinstall the printer driver.
- if you want to reinstall the printer driver you can download the driver from this link. Make sure that you choose the correct operating system so we wont encounter more errors.

I hope this will be able to help you.

thank you for choosing Fixya.

My printer is typing out symbols instead of what I asked it to print

Check the application you are using and make sure the correct font has been chosen.

Do you have any toy people with tiny fingers that so often help us go bonkers?

If so, check to make sure that the printer is set to the correct language.

Print to small on hp deskjet printer

Reinstall the driver, hp constantly updates their drivers, with bad drivers sometimes itwill even print the "wingdings" font instead.

Ink level problem

Print a test page to determine if the color cartridge is working
  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. If you have an HP Deskjet 710c, 712c, 720c, 722c, or 820c series printer, follow the instructions below:
    1. Turn the printer on.
    2. Press and hold down the Power button while pressing the Resume button four times.
    3. Release the Power button.
  3. If you have any other HP Deskjet printers, click here for instructions on how to print an internal test.
  4. If the printout is black and white, with no color, follow the instructions below:
    1. Open the top cover of the printer and remove the cartridges.
    2. Verify that the correct cartridges are installed in the printer. Click here to see if you have the correct cartridges. If the correct cartridges are installed, make sure that the tape has been removed from the cartridge nozzles.
    3. Insert the cartridges firmly back in their cradles and close the latches.
    4. Close the printer door.
Verify the correct printer is selected as the default printer
  1. In the software application that you are using to print, click File.
  2. Click Print.
  3. In the Print dialog box, verify that the name of the HP printer you are using is listed in the Name box.
  4. If the printer is not listed in the Name box, click the arrowhead to the right of the box.
  5. Click the name of the HP printer.
  6. Click OK.
Check that the printer settings are correct
  1. Close the software application that you are using to print.
  2. Click Start, click Settings, and then click Printers.
  3. Right-click the icon (picture) for the HP printer.
  4. In the menu that displays, use the left mouse button to click Properties.
  5. In the Properties dialog box, click the Details tab. (In Windows 2000, click the Advanced tab.)
  6. Check that the driver listed under Print using the following driver or Printer matches the HP printer you are using. The following setting may be in one of several places, depending on your printer driver and operating system.
  7. In the Details tab, click Setup. Under Printout, select one of the color options. (If other optionshave check marks, click in the check boxes to remove the check marks.) If there is no Setup button, click the Graphics tab, and then click Color. Under Color Control, choose a color option, and click OK. If there is no Graphics tab, click the Advanced tab and look for the text Print in Grayscale. If there is a check mark in the box by Print in Grayscale, click in the box to remove the check mark, and click OK. If you are using Windows 2000, in the Advanced tab, click Printing Defaults. Click the Advanced tab. The box by Print in Grayscale should not be checked.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Close the Printers window.

Internal test page fine, external prints black in blue

before you print, you have to check your options.

For example, if you want to print black and white, when you select PRINT from the menu, you click on PROPERTIES to the right side or bottom side, depending on which windows you use, then select grayscale/black and white, etc in the options that will follow to correctly use your ink, you can always REMOVE the ink from your printer as you only want to print black and white or non color pages.

I hope this helps you.
