Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
It does sound as if the motor requires replacement unless it's the belt slipping.Belts are not expensive- sorry I do not know how much yours would cost- and are easy to be changed by a competent person:-
REMOVE POWER FROM THE MACHINE AND REMOVE THE BACK.
The motor support bolts should be loosened and the old belt removed. Often putting the new belt on is a bit of a struggle, even with the motor 'loose', because it is new and smaller!
Once on it should be tensioned by pulling the motor against the belt firmly- but not over tight- and the motor support bolts tightened.
ON NO ACCOUNT SHOULD ANY FORM OF LEVERAGE BE USED TO TENSION THE BELT. THAT COULD LEAD TO DAMAGE TO THE BELT, MOTOR AND BEARINGS- EXPENSIVE!
If it is the motor it might be suggested that just the brushes on the motor want changing; experience (of others) suggests that they may only last months rather than many years UNLESS the motor itself is refurbished. Refurbishment includes skimming the commutator on which the brushes run. Without skimming the brushes do not sit cleanly on the com, often causing excessive sparking and excessive wear on BOTH. Alternately a new motor! I changed the motor (and the belt at the same time) on our 19+ year-old Bosch at a cost of GBP250 ;-0(
It's your choice of course!
Good luck,
John C

Why wont the motor on a top load roper washer work after a flood

If the motor was submerged in water it's probably shot. They aren't made to function during and after exposure to water.

Washer motor turns, drum does not

Please be gentle with me if this is obviously not the problem, but I have made the mistake of running top load washers with the door open (which the washer notices and does not turn the basket. I fixed my problem by loading the washer, adding the detergent while the washing machine was filling and then closing the door. My washer worked fine with the door closed.
Again, please be gentle with me as you rate my helpfulness. OK?

Check whether water is fully drained. Since the motor worked during wash motor is not faulty.

Check relay that poers the motor during spin mode. May be micro controller fault posiible.

GE Top load washer 15years old. noisy when spinning

washer making a load cluck noise when the spin cycle starts.
It only happens when the motor turns slow for the first minute during the spin cycle. Otherwise it works fine.
if the motor is proper then the bearings in the motor got rusted and that needs replacement.the beasrings are located on the back of the motor.

Won't spin.

Your washer obviously has been over-loaded. It trips the spin switch & prevents top-speed spinning. See that you load within the machine's user manual load, not more. You can even weigh your laundry before loading to see that you dont over-load. Also see that the laundry is evenly placed within the bucket. These are suggestions.
