You may not have the correct codecs installed to play DVD's

download K-lite codec pack and install it, after installing codecs you should be able to play the dvd's

the codecs to play dvd's sometimes don't come with the basic install of windows.

Does the computer recognize the 500GB Drive when you plug it into your usb port?

Click Start/My Computer and see if your 500GB drive is listed as a device, if not that's a problem.

Try using a different usb port. Also try using the 500GB drive on another computer.

If it's gone belly up, it's not going to work.

Bought a Targus slimline usb dvd player to attack to my acer netbook. It will not play any dvd's. It keeps saying my disks may be corrupt. What do I do?

There is either a problem with your discs or the targus unit so first:
put in a disc and if it says that it's corrupt then take it out and try to play it in something else that you know works.
Then if it does play, it's the targus unit's fault. If it does not play then your discs are bad.

I cannot play a cd on computer tried setting info into windows media

If you cannot play a CD on your computer. Please try the following: 1. Make sure the IDE cables are properly seated in the CD Drive. Also try to reseat the power cable connecting your power supply to the CD Drive. 2. Make sure the CDROM is recognized by your system. To check if its recognize go to system properties then hardware. Choose Device manager and look for CD/DVD drives - check if it has a yellow question mark on it. If it has install a driver for that device or use windows update to update the driver. 3. If you can find another CD Drive. Try installing it on your system. 4. Install or update your windows media player. You can also use VLC player.
Thanks. Please rate. Let me know if you need further assistance.

Computer cannot find cd disk drive...it is a dual dvd/disk drive...I can play a dvd...but cannot get computer to recognize any type of cd It is a Toshiba satelite u20 pc with xp

I have seen such kind of problem when Apple's itunes or Quicktime player is installed on the system. And it works fine again just after uninstalling the above said softwares.

Anyway, Check out for the said softwares.

If you haven't installed the said softwares then just need to do some configuration. Below is the step

1) click the start menu
2) click on "run"
3) type "regedit" and click ok
4) go to string key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
5) delete "upper filters" and "lower filters in the right side window.
6) right click my computer in the start menu.
7) click properties
8) go to the hardware tab
9) click device manager
10) expand the dvd/cdrom drives
11) right click the dvd rom and click uninstall
12) restart computer

and check if it works now.

Let me know which one works out for you.

I just bought an Aveis 1080p upconverting DVD player and when i put my USB device in it doesn't it says unsupported. What kind of USB device should I get

USB stick has to be formated in FAT32 file system.
Some players will only play sticks up to 2 Gigs, some may recognize and play video files even from external hard drives.
Aveis is a no name player, so who knows if it'll play anything besides MP3 and JPG.

I'd go with a Pioneer or Coby (both at Best Buy); both play DivX format from sticks and external hard drives; no MPEG-4 or MKV files though, which is a bummer (did not find any player under $100 that does.)
I tried them both (also tried Philips and Toshiba), but the Pioneer had far the best picture and sound amongst all of them. Coby was OK, but the display broke.

Targus mouse not recognized

What is the OS of your computer? This Targus mouse would work with Win 98, Win 2000 and Win XP. Vista was not mentioned. And if you are running Windows Vista for you laptop, then that could be the reason why it was not recognized by the computer.

Is this the wireless optical mouse? If yes, you need to follow the steps below to isolate the problem:

1. Connect the USB receiver into different USB ports of the computer.
2. Replace the batteries with the fresh ones.
3. Try connecting the mouse into different computer to see if you've got a defective mouse.

If you've tried everything and got the same problem, you may need to refer to the manufacturer, because I'm not sure if this mouse is a Plug-n-Play device or if it needs a driver.

Have a great day!

Toshiba HD-A3 won't load HD-DVD

It should recognise the discs. If you just bought it new, it's under warranty. Take it back and exchange it.
