Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

I've got a Smeg DI612CA9 D/wahser. When I turn it on it pumps down as normal but won't stop pumpimg down even when the door is opened. If I leave it for +hrs it will allow me to start a wash cycle, but again goes into the same 'loop' at the pumpdown point. Any ideas?

Most likely you need new dispenser and you could buy it on line or you could get it from your local service centre as they might be able to order it for you

Dishwasher cavitates. I have a Smeg DI612CA9

Does the drain hose loop up to the top of the unit before going to the sink drain? If it goes down first it may be siphoning or draining by gravity.

Pinch roller stuck in "up" position, eject button won't open door

The very first mistake is to pry a door open. That damages them. You are never to do that. The correct way to get a tape out is to open the unit up and find out why the tape is stuck and then take action to release the door in the normal way- usually it is a loose belt or defective cam motor. As to the Pinch roller there are slide plates and even some pinch rollers had lubrication on them so that may have dried leaving you with a stuck part. The normal order of business is the find out what is stuck and then take action to clean and lubricate the mechanism to return to normal function. The problem with some Pinch Rollers is that there may be a particular spot it needs to be set at. This is true if it has a guide fitted to it. Then you will need either a jig or mirror tape to be able to set it correct again. I can not give any further advice without seeing the unit but this should get you started.

Smeg fridge smell

Turn it on, or open it up. Even new fridges smell funny when closed. It all goes away when cold. Then open a box of baking soda and leave it inside the fridge.
This assumes the unit is CLEAN.

Hello Myles,

Your description suggests water has leaked (and is probably still leaking) into the bottom of the dishwasher under the wash compartment and is tripping the anti-flood protection system. The pump continuing to run even with the door open would confirms that the anti-floop protection has been activated, although the problem could be a fault with the float-switch for this safety feature.

I suspect you have a leak. When you leave the washer for a few hours a certain amount of this water will evaporate. This allows the float to fall deactivating the float-switch so you can start a wash cycle. However, as soon as you start a cycle, more water leaks into the bottom of the washer and the anti-flood protection system trips again.

You really need to have a look under the wash compartment and check for the presence of water there before you do anything else. If there is water in the bottom, pull the washer out and tilt it backwards about 10-15 degrees to allow any water to run out. You should then be able to use the washer again, but if there is a leak, the problem will return fairly quickly, so this really needs to be investigated fully.

If you pull the washer out to remove any water in the base, I'd suggest putting some old towels behind the washer before tilting it, to absorb any water that runs out. I also suggest getting someone to help you tilt the washer as they are heavy and the bottom can slide out when you tilt it.

You should also switch off the dishwasher and the power supply and close the water check valve ot disconnect the water supply hose before attempting this

Hope this helps.

Regards,
BElectric

Wahser stopped after wash cycle, burning smell

Hi, it is possible that something got into the pump and stopped it from turning. Let the drain hose down so that it drains into a bucket or a floor drain if possible.
If water does not drain then it is deffinetly plugged. Once you get the water out of the washer, tip it against the wall and try to remove the pump off the motor. There are two clips that hold the pump on. You will also need to remove the hoses.
With the pump off, you can set the washer back down and try to run the spin cycle. If the motor runs, it must be the pump.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks
Vic
