Startx fails

By Jimmy NY - usenet poster

I have just completed installing rh7.0.  When I try to "startx" it goes
along loading things and dies with the message:

Fatal server error:
Caught signal 11.  Server aborting

The last message prior to the error is:

(II) TRIDENT: driver for Trident Chipsets: tva8900d,
cyber9320,cyber9388,
            (more drivers listed)
                        cyberbladei7,
cyberbladei7d,cyberbladei1,cyberbladei1d

Fatal server error:
Caught signal 11. Server aborting

Can anyone explain how I can fix this error?

The monitor is a Tatung CM-14UHE
The video card is a trident VGA9000 w/ 512k memory

I had this same monitor and card working on rh v5.2

An unrelated question.  How can I tell what other RPMs are needed, when
I load a particular package. I am trying to do this from a command line?

Please help

I'd run Xconfgurator again..  I've had problems with that card on a PC
I've got here...  /var/log/X.log will tell you more about what it is
trying to do such as probing the card and looking for acceptable
resolutions...

As far as the RPMS go, when you try rpm -ivh thisfile.i386.rpm
it should say what is needed.  Go to RPMfind and look for those files as
part of another package.   the developers web site will also have the
package requirements and usually they links to those packages...

When you install/upgrage an RPM do:

        #rpm -Uvh foo.rpm

the 'v' is for verbose so RPM will print a list of packages it needs.
The 'h' prints hash marks '#' that show install progress.
