Open Question

Hi, Have a Hitachi 42PD580DTA out of warranty. Will no longer get digital channels. Will work through a set top box. Tried Resetting Factory settings in DTT menu. Is it worth fixing? Someone said to replace the motherboard. Is this expensive? Can I do it myself? Where would I get one? Kelly

SOURCE: trying to set up Wii console with Hitachi

You should have various input connections on the back of the tv. Use the red, white (audio) and yellow (video) connections. The remote should have a button that lets you select which input to use. After connecting the wii, turn it on and try all the input selections until you see the wii screen

Hi I have a bush 3d smart TV 42inch bought only a couple of months a go, I was watching TV and it turnt off now it just keeps turning on and off the controller won't work, it won't change to any channel,...

Return to manufacturer or shop where you bought it and get a new set. The controller may need factory resetting but you don't have to put up with this and it is still under warranty.

How to tune channels on a 14 inch RCA tv?

You need a good set top box, either Hi definition or standard Pal, to make any CRT Television work. These days, non digital TV do work well but they no longer accept analog signals, but when connected to a set top box that receives digital signals, the box converts the digitals signals to analo and sends then to the RCA inputs of your TV and not via an antenna connected to the set top box and the TV.

Cable in my area has switched to digital cable. I own a Hitachi HDTV about four years old. When I scan my channels it will only scan analog channels...the digital channels are an option but I don't...

Unfortunately, you need a set-top box. The Hitachi 65F59 has an ATSC (digital OTA) and NTSC (analog) tuner. It doesn't have a clear-QAM (unencrypted digital cable) tuner.

There are a few DVR set-top boxes with QAM tuners that you can buy separately. (You will need to make sure a given model is compatible with your service. FIOS uses a different option on the Cable Card than other providers.) Alternatively, you can get a cable box from your company.

Retrevo has the manual for this Hitachi TV here: http://www.retrevo.com/support/Hitachi-65F59-TVs-manual/id/371ci977/t/2/ . You will need to enter a code to access the PDF.

If you want OTA HD, you will need to determine the correct antenna for your area and the direction to the transmitters. (External antennas pick up more stations. In some areas amplification may be needed to get a good signal.) See antennaweb.org or tvfool.com for searches on the appropriate antenna to get a signal and where to point the antenna. Antennaweb assumes an external antenna but is very conservative in the received channel list. You would need to set the TV signal input to Air and rescan for channels if you choose to go with the OTA signal.

I wish that I had better news for you.

My set top box will no longer pick up certain channels such as itv and channel 4 stations !!

My set top box has setup menu, channels, autoscan to scan for channels. They changed some of the channels here after the original switch to digital, and a fresh autoscan was needed to again find the channels that moved. See if your box has autoscan for channels, and do it.

I have a Hitachi 26LD8000TA LCD tv - does it have a built in digital tuner or do I have to get a set top box to receive the new digital channels?

The Hitachi 26LD8000TA is HD ready which means it has a digital tuner. You do not need a set top box unless you are getting your signal from a cable company that encrypts their digital signal.

I just did a factory reset this morning and I had the same problem until I realised that you have to use the "Output" button to get the Video Outputs to DVI Digital (see page 17 of the manual), if that's what your connection is, then I could select "menu" and do a channel search. Hope this helps.

Loss of channels

If you mean "losing" as in you could no longer tune to those channels because they disappeared out of the channel list entirely, then it's likely a software problem.  If you haven't already, try resetting your DVR to factory settings (since this unit is TiVo powered, it should be under the main menu, Messages and Settings, then Restart or Reset system; follow the on-screen instructions to reset the system).

If you mean "losing" as in you can tune to the channel but there's no signal, then that sounds like a tuner problem to me.  If the box is still under warranty or you lease it, have it repaired or replaced.  If you bought the box and the warranty is up, it looks like you might have to get a new one, or pay for the repair out of pocket.

You might also try calling back to DirecTV tech support and asking to be escalated or to speak with a supervisor; especially if it's a box you're leasing from them, since it is definitely *their* problem in that case.
