Hi, If the problem is with the LCD display unit, Sony is now extending the warranty on the LCD display and will fix the problem for free through September 30, 2012. See: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/news-item.pl?news_id=378&mdl=KDL46XBR4 Call their customer service number and they will give you a case number. Then call one of their authorized service centers and they will fix it free, in home.

you just need to replace the lamp here is a link you can purchase the part

http://www.discount-merchant.com/Sony-XL-2200-TV-LAMP-p/sony_xl-2200u_a1601753a_enc.htm?1=1&CartID=0

If you follow the link i gave you in the last response , it is 139.99 you can find it cheaper else where but you want to make sure you get an actual sony/philips lamp.

It is really easy to do right above the video to door the panel pulls off and exposes the video to door. There is a thumb screw on the door and the lamp takes an allan wrench to come out.Simply slide the new lamp in and tighten it with the allan wrench.Remember to put the lamp door back on or the TV will not come on.The new lamp should come with instructions also...

t does sound like a bulb problem, either its over heating and shutting off to protect itself, or its already shot. Give a TV repair shop a call and see if they can give you an approximate price, then decide to ditch or repair it.

Tv turns itself off and on.

I just had this problem. The plastic back of the TV has a grated opening directly in the middle and towards the top of the TV. There is a fan directly behind. The grated opening was full of dust so air couldn't pass easily. I simply vacuumed the dust. I went the extra step and removed the whole back of the TV and vacuumed the entire space.

I assume the internal temperature exceeded its maximum so the TV turned it self off. Cooled enough to try a restart, heated up, ...
